Which is less of an annoyance than YLOD. Microsoft is so far in Wefuckedupsville that they fix that stuff for free. People can say all they want that the YLOD isn't as much of a problem as RLOD since it happens less. Until, of course, it happens to your ps3 and you have to shell out $150 no matter what for a refurb, with numerous accounts of those failing again. YLOD is by far the worst thing to deal with. I tried just using my first controller from that system for my newer one, but then that ended up crapping out on me too. I tried to have them fix it but they just wouldn't. They just wouldn't. It was part of a defective system and they'd have to fix the whole system for $150 to care at all about the controller. Jeez. It's just a controller, just fix it separately and charge me for it. But no, they wouldn't. Jesus Christ. Now I'm beginning to understand why Kurt was so pissed about this a year or so ago.

Wow that sony repairs thing is terrible only console my family had to get fixed was my brother's Ds lite we bought it in america brand new in Costco but the charger plug was busted staight away. Sent it to in Nintendo with proof of purcase for £25 including posting gave us a brand new fully working model. Only took a few days as well.
I a way im already Boycotting Sony though I refuse to buy a Ps3 until they put back in the PS2 chip inside it that and the only Ps3 games I would want is Little Big Planet 1 and 2 and im fine with sticking with the Psp version of that game.

I won't boycott Sony any more than I already am. I only use the PS3 for exclusives, and even then, it's sparingly. This fiasco was a mild inconvenience for me at worst.

I just want to be compensated for time lost. I have a paid Playstation Plus subscription and every day without PSN is a day that isn't being used.

It really sucks, the timing of this - my last XBox 360 red-ringed and I couldn't afford a replacement (and I'm out of warranty anyway), so I've been taking most of my next-gen gaming to the PS3 and my PC. And yet, so much for being able to do anything with this copy of Little Big Planet. At least most of my PSN games (with the exception of a small handful) were already on the hard drive. =P

Next Gen was 5 years ago... I think the term Next Gen should no longer be used.

So who's joining me in my Sony Boycott? None of the sane people, that's for sure.

I'll still be buying ps3 games because of MK9 and Duke Nukem, but I won't be bothering with any more playstation systems. In all honesty the only reason I got a ps3 was because of how I like to play my fighting games, which initially was my only reason for getting a console aside from the Wii. The xpad is crap for fighters and I didn't want to learn how to use an arcade stick. However, I'm not as resistant to the idea of learning the stick anymore, and I'm realizing that I'm more partial to the Microsoft exclusives anyway, both physical games and xbla hd remakes. This recent scrape with the hacking didn't effect how I feel about sony at all, it was more the ylod thing.

Isn't it amusing that this hacker group tried to act like heroes, making claims that this was "punishment" for Sony suing the guy that cracked their hardware or whatever (Ignoring the fact that hacking Sony's servers ALSO screws over a lotta gamers that just wanna play and don't give a shit about some guy that wants pirated...sorry "homebrew" software)...and then THIS turns up, showing us their real aims: Crime.
No matter what you may think of Sony, these hackers are a million times worse. Let's hope some crime agency can track 'em down and chuck their filthy asses in jail

Next Gen was 5 years ago... I think the term Next Gen should no longer be used. what about the new Wii what gen does that belong to Personally I just think "next-gen" is whatever tech isn't yet on the market. Once it's on the market? "Obsolete"

lol sony you're such a piece of reprehensible dog shit I'm glad this is opening a lot of peoples' eyes on how terrible Sony's customer service is and how little they care about their customers. There are still the diehard retards out there trying to say Sony is better than Microsoft in this department, but public opinion is definitely shifting away and the brand loyalty they had going into this generation, the only thing that saved them, is crumbling away after they've been one step behind and miles away in quality from Xbox since launch. No matter what you may think of Sony, these hackers are a million times worse. Let's hope some crime agency can track 'em down and chuck their filthy asses in jail I think the fact that Sony was using antiquated security measures to protect our information definitely, irrefutably makes them a million times worse.

lI think the fact that Sony was using antiquated security measures to protect our information definitely, irrefutably makes them a million times worse. This. Sony's terms of service claim that you cannot hold them accountable if your information is stolen* while using the PSN and you're forced to agree to them to even use their services. That combined with the fact that Sony is just straight up contemptuous of their customer base proves that they are in fact much more accountable for this breach in this than the hackers are. There's no "right" here but Sony has a responsibility to their customers and their slacking has come back to bite them in the ass and they deserve every financial hit they take and then some. *this is illegal btw and won't hold up in a court of law

The consequences, especially in the long term, may be even worse than you think. The network's downtime is costing the third-parties money. Small publishers reliant on downloadable games are seeing no income. There are also reports of games being cancelled for the PS3. Not only customers, but also partners' confidence in Sony is seriously dented.
Meanwhile if the judge rules in favor of the person who sued Sony, expect a flood of similar reports. Maybe even class actions.
I'm willing to bet some Sony execs are secretly polising their seppuku kit.

Yea as much as I hate to say this, Sony Playstation is fucked, I'm not sure this will destroy Sony as a company because I really don’t know how Playstation factors into the big Sony family but the fact is they stored all the sensitive information on a basically public system that only needed to be tricked, this was going to happen sooner or later. Sony will need to build trust again, remake the whole online system and then make sure all the people who have lost money out of this are given what they deserve for lost hours.
I don’t see Sony Playstation being able to keep up in the race anymore and that just leaves Microsoft and Nintendo running against each other, but neither are competing so Microsoft will get to do what it wants with developers, since Xbox will be the only console on the market there won’t be a need for exclusives (this is actually kind of awesome since it would be nice to see all games being able to be played off a single format just like movies but this isn’t exactly it) so Microsoft won’t need to pay for them or fund specific developers (it’s likely they still will since it’s in Microsoft’s best interest to create million sellers that everyone wants) .
It’s something we just need to wait and see what happens. If Sony drops out of games consoles (and I think it will after this mess) then it’s going to be hit and miss for gamers and games developers.
