Hey, Didn't see this posted yet (although it might be somewhere, if so, sorry). blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/26/update-on-playstation-network-and-qriocity/Long story short, if you were dumb like me and used your CC on PSN, it's time to change it. The hackers apparently got that info, too, along with your birthday and other info like that. So I don't know what that homebrew hacker guy was bitching about; between this and the backdoor exploit on those Sony music CDs about six years ago, Sony is a malicious hacker's best friend it seems. They sure as hell aren't our friends.

Yeah, it's a pretty catastrophic failure of account security. The worst part however, is that information that people can't change, such as their birthdates etc, is also out there somewhere. The combination of incompetent security and a week-long radio silence regarding the issue is absurd. Looks like from now on I'll have to use prepaid PSN cards exclusively, because clearly Sony simply can't be arsed to provide adequate data security or proper customer service to alert people in a timely fashion if the worst happens.

It's not just your CC details but also it could be your password. There's some reports that Sony stored the passwords of users in plaintext on their servers instead of as encrypted hash values which is totally idiotic. So if they have your password and it's the same you use for your email address that you have given or you use this password a lot then be careful as well!

My purchases through PSN were with a points card, and I had just spent all but .30 of it right before this happened. I'll be changing my password as soon as I can, though. Luckily, I did come up with a unique PSN one. XD
Sucky as hell, though, both in terms of what happened and how Sony's handling it.

I already had to go through this because of Gawker a couple of months back. This is seriously frustrating. BTW, technically, Sony hasn't confirmed yet if the CC info has been compromised. But at the same time, it took them a week to make an announcement on this in the first place...I'm not putting it past them to either be withholding that info or just being ignorant of whether the CC stuff was found or not.

My only advice is to set your credit report status to high alert on a credit monitoring site.

This is a massive clusterfuck.
Thankfully, I didn't have any CC info in my account, but I'm gonna change all my passwords around cause I have the tendency to use the same one for most every site.

^ Yeah...not exactly a good idea to let that fact be known. Hey, they wouldn't be watching hg101. They wouldn't be able to cross-reference my account here to my PSN stuff. Right? Right, guys? Right?oh god.

Luckily, the only time I used a CC to purchase anything off the PSN, it was with a card that has already been cancelled for a while, and I know the password I used there was not one that I've reused for anything actually important. So, I'm fairly safe as far as those things go. The only thing that possibly may be worrisome is if they also stole the security question/answer, since there is a possibility I've reused that other places.

I remember trying to set up an account to buy Castlevania Chronicles but I couldn't figure out how to navigate the site, so I just pirated it. Thanks Sony!

I remember trying to set up an account to buy Castlevania Chronicles but I couldn't figure out how to navigate the site, so I just pirated it. Thanks Sony! You could buy that off Psn? you sure can not can't anywhere in Europe Konami sure are cheap have the Real UMD anyway though. Glad I did not buy anything though a credit card on PSN just though Point cards. The last one I added though was only a few days before all this started not the best timing there got both the games I wanted that was on sale at the time at least. Never used a credit card on 360 just point cards soley because I can get them cheaper and get a Extra 100 points as well by buying point cards. Though I did put Credit card details in Steam but that card is cancled now so save there. The way sony are handling this is just as bad as Microsoft with Game Room. Though thats begin buggy for over 4 months and can even break your 360 with its lock ups yet they still have yet to fix it or say if they are going to.
