That's not a source for an independent verification of Microsoft's security system.
So why would you trust Microsoft, when you have just as little reason to trust them as you did Sony?
It makes no sense. What you should learn from this is to never trust corporations with more information than you absolutely need to. Not that you should stop trusting Sony.

If you're looking for legal documents then I don't have them and I don't know why you'd expect that I would.
Why trust MS more with cc info? I never said I would, I don't have an xbox but people who do are worried. But MS also encourages the use of prepaid point cards and such. This I know because I always see them. My main issue with sony has nothing to do with this issue anyway. It has to do with their customer service, which I've dealt with personally. This latest situation effected me very little. But I have to admit that Sony is stupid with how they've dealt with this.

It looked very much like you were stating that Microsoft has better encryption/security as if it was a fact, which is why I expected you to have something to back that fact up.

All I can say is if you subscribbed to PSN, contact one of the three credit bureaus and ask for a 90 day fraud alert and make sure you call back every 90 days and keep it up. You can find the phone numbers on the FTC's website www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/consumers/defend.html . It's a small thing, but it can seriously go a long way in avoiding future hassle down the road. The 90 day alert is free and can be maintained for free if you call back every 3 months.

I was inferring it from the fact that they have the same basic type of encryption, yet xbox has not yet suffered from the same problems. Fact, no. More like a logical assumption. Recall that I never said that they encrypt anything better, just that they keep better track of it.

Not really, Microsoft and Sony are very different companies, so their security structure obviously differs by quite a bit. The method that worked for Sony wouldn't work for Microsoft. Doesn't mean that there isn't another equally effective method to get to Microsoft's databases that hasn't been found yet.
Edit: encrypting, keeping track of, what's the difference? (edit, sorry, that was rhetorical, there's no difference)

I'll let you figure that out. Not really, Microsoft and Sony are very different companies, so their security structure obviously differs by quite a bit. Also I'll have to ask to be fair. Did you infer this or do you have a source? My bit about encryption comes from what I've read, not necessarily from documents or anything, just from xbox users.

Did you infer this or do you have a source? I inferred this from my knowledge that Microsoft and Sony do not have exactly the same employees. As far as assumptions go, it's not exactly a bad one.

I've known a few people to have traded in their PS3s for a 360 over this ridiculousness, but I wonder if any of that is happening in Japan? Sony's brand loyalty is much stronger over there and I'm wondering what the reaction is to all this.

Hey, got an e-mail from Sony today. Apparently they were hacked last week or something? So there's been no PSN all this time? And hey, my personal info was taken. Lucky for me I didn't use a credit card on there I guess. Man, it's so nice to be notified about this nearly TWO WEEKS AFTER IT HAPPENED in my e-mail. So kind.
*end complete and utter sarcasm*

I got my email a few days ago, incidentally.
While I don't hate Sony, they do tend to have an attitude of superiority which will be knocked down a peg. Of course even after the launch debacle of the PS3 they still managed to become arrogant cocks again - who knows what the future holds.
Hopefully SEGA getting back in the console game...a man can dream.

Hopefully SEGA getting back in the console game...a man can dream. I know. I'd be there in a heartbeat. So many mistakes to learn from; you just know that the onus would be on them to never repeat such history again.
