Seriously, what is up with Capcom these days?
First the BCR2/Double Impact DRM and now this?

From the sound of it, this is a pretty lame move for a progression-based game, but I'm pretty sure there are quite a few games with smaller things like changing title screens that don't let you reset them. You can always try inserting/removing the game while the system is on. I accidentally deleted my friend's Kirby's Dreamland 2 files trying to swap game-specific Super Gameboy borders...

Seriously, what is up with Capcom these days? All of their top talent left, they're obsessed with shallowly mimicking western games in an attempt to retain market share in today's FPS world, and since that wasn't working they've apparently decided to squeeze as much money out of their remaining customer base as humanly possible regardless of the fact that every time they pull this shit they lose more and more fans. Capcom is gone. The company I adored for decades doesn't exist any more. It's nothing but a shambling zombie now. If you want to play "Capcom" games, you need look no further than Platinum Games... almost everybody at Capcom who mattered works there now.

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll redeem themselves with Mega Man Legends 3. It's already going in the right direction with promised release dates being pushed back, a demo that you have to pay money for and the design team thinking it's a better idea to ask fans what to do than actually make their own game. Don't forget new playable characters no one asked for and the fact they keep dancing around the fact whether it's confirmed or not.

I disagree, I think Dragon's Dogma seems like it could be something special.

Last I checked, Devil Survivor had New Game right there on the title screen. Did you actually read what I wrote? What I was saying is there doesn't seem to be any way to set the cart back to its factory state. When you buy the game, none of the characters are visible on the title screen. As you unlock different endings, they appear there one by one. There doesn't appear to be any way to do a full reset on it. I realize it's not the same thing as what Capcom has done here. But it is somewhat similar.

Not a big deal for me for 2 reasons: 1. It implies I'd ever sell it. 2. I wouldn't delete the progress I've worked for to start again. Maybe for this game specifically, it's fine. I can think of a lot of games where I couldn't care less if there were no way to delete my saves. (Need for Speed _______ comes to mind) However, this definitely sets a dangerous precedent. If it catches on, it could theoretically appear in games where it would be more damaging. I think the fear here is that there might one day be games that you'd have to effectively re-buy every time you wanted to play through them again.

Dumb question. The 3ds dont allows you to store your savegames on the console like any other system nowadays.

Nearly every other system nowadays uses optical media, which is incapable of storing save data. The 3DS does store things like streetpass data and some other stuff, but by virtue of using those little cards instead of optical disks, they don't actually need to store your saves on the system.

He does have a point though. This kind of thing is a nonissue on optical media based games, because save storage has to be handled separately from game storage, so you have more control. Same goes for downloadable titles, as long as save storage is handled locally. If saves are handled server-side, all bets are off I guess.

True enough. I misread his post slightly.

Is there no "new game" option at all in this RE?

That's actually a good question. I'm wondering if the number of profiles is limited or you can only have one.

If there's a new game option that wipes your old save clean, then that's that.
But if you can only do a "new game+" with the stuff you've learned already, then that's still really dickish.
