Word is that this is to help prevent used game sales. The game also apparently has RPG elements, in that you can unlock skills and other things the more you play, so you can't play through and experience everything more than once. That's pretty fucked up.

Capcom is starting to reach Activision levels of douchebaggery.

This really opens up the used game market for people who hate grinding to unlock skills themselves though.

Not a big deal for me for 2 reasons:
1. It implies I'd ever sell it. 2. I wouldn't delete the progress I've worked for to start again.
I can see if they did this for -anything else- but somehow it just doesn't bother me here. I'm looking forward to getting this more than I'm looking forward to getting OoT3D. And the RE: Revelations demo sweetens the deal even more.

As far as I could tell, Devil Survivor is the same way. Anyone want to set me straight on that? I loaned it to someone else, and I haven't played it yet. As you get the different endings, it changes the menu screen. Maybe other things too, don't know. There doesn't seem to be any way to reset the cart. At least, I didn't see one. I could be wrong though.
I guess not a huge deal, but it kind of sucks.
EDIT: I also noticed something somewhat similar in the DS version of Dragon Quest IV (and probably V as well). Once you make a quicksave, there doesn't seem to be any way to clear the quicksave slot. All you can do is overwrite it. This is not a huge deal, but it's somewhat discouraging.

Last I checked, Devil Survivor had New Game right there on the title screen.

Not only that, but some people, including myself, like to wipe clean their saved game data in order to start fresh when replaying a game years down the road. With this, that's completely impossible. You get to experience the early game once, and then never again unless you buy another new copy, because you can't erase your saved game data.
Capcom has pulled some serious asshole moves in the past with crap like the PSN DRM for BCR2 and Final Fight: Double Impact, but this is a whole new level of terrible. Now they're deciding that a game's owner isn't allowed to have control over their own save file. That is insane.
