If this does come out (which I'm hoping it does, even with the way Capcom is currently), I don't think I'll mind too much if it makes the switch to 3-d graphics as long as the gameplay still feels and controls like it did in the old games, it retains its anime/manga/crazy look and designs of the older games, the music is in a similar style of the old games, and it still has loads of little details and charm/personality in the game to make it fun to play and look at.

I think this was brought up before a while back, but wouldn't it be fairly difficult to work Demitri's Midnight Bliss into the game given it were 3D? With sprites they could just draw the female versions of all the characters, but wouldn't they have to change the character models completely?

Yes. It's the same difference between making a drawing on a simple sheet of paper and constructing an entire doll.

Character models are not particularly difficult to create. It's putting together all the animations, and making sure the character models don't do wacky things or contort in weird ways when animated that takes a lot of effort. If all that was required was making a model that stands there, or does a limited animation set, it wouldn't be that bad.

Yes. It's the same difference between making a drawing on a simple sheet of paper and constructing an entire doll. It's a doll made from moldable-on-the-fly parts though. It's like Gumby! Instead of redrawing the entire sprite over and over again for the different animations.

And you can often cheat by just copying the body and basic animation set off another character with the same body type. Like action figures. Just stick a different head on.

If Darkstalkers gets a new entry with 3D graphics, there better be a PC version for mutant moveswap midnight bliss hilarity.

This mighta been were the rumor originated.
Ono began his talk with a slide that said "Darkstalkers are not dead." He mentioned that he went back to his bosses in Japan with evidence that there was support for a Darkstalkers game in the form of a picture of Comic-Con 2010 attendees holding up dollar bills, pledging their support for a new game in the fighting series. Ono said that wasn't enough, so he asked Comic-Con 2011 attendees to hold up a $10 bill (or even a $20 bill) so he could take another picture and show it to his bosses. The crowd obliged.
Woulda been cool. Only this and Dino Crisis sequel would've really sold me right away.

Capcom will announce the demo and then cancel it, citing not enough fan-support as their reasoning.

Oh come on ;p This is definitely nailing the coffin shut. There's no way it's not happening, now.
Well, okay, what Jonny said might happen, but it's at least obvious they're working on a new DS game. They wouldn't dare tease fans with something that they're not working on after storming up a PR disaster with Mega Man Legends 3.
