Wow. Really mad at Capcom. I kind of want to boycott their newer stuff, but then, I want to play Street Fighter x Tekken and Tekken x Street Fighter.. :\

Beautiful Katamari has half its levels locked away as on-disc DLC...and that's about all I can think of off-hand. I'm sure there's something else about Soul Calibur IV that I forgot, but I haven't really kept an eye on them since Katamari.

Hmm, is Beautiful Katamari a long game already though, for the part that isn't DLC? If it is, that seems like it might not be too bad to me.

Besides the aforementioned Beautiful Katamari bullshit, there was the complete and total mishandling and shafting of the Splatterhouse franchise as a whole, starting with their ignoring the franchise almost completely for twelve years and ending with their treatment of Splatterhouse '10 prior to and after release. As far as good ol' Konami is concerned, I've been pissed off at them since about 1997, when the Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus/Gradius Gaiden PS1 combo disc was cancelled. I can list the U.S. released games I've personally found worth buying and keeping from them since then: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night Castlevania Chronicles Gradius III & IV Gradius V Contra: Shattered Soldier ...that's about it. I'd definitely grab all of the ReBirth games if I had a Wii, Contra 4 if I had a DS, and the Gradius Collection and Dracula X Chronicles if I had a PSP, as all of those seem to be worth getting (only one I've played personally is the Dracula X Chronicles, and I liked it quite a bit - although the PC Engine original is still tops). I did buy Hard Corps: Uprising, but haven't played it enough to form a genuine opinion yet. What I've played seems pretty good though.

No love for Silent Hills 1-3? Silent Hill 1 is very rough around the edges. I've actually grown to love it during the process of writing my article about the series (three years and counting!), but I could easily understand if someone said it sucked.

Silent Hill's roughness is what gives it a lot of its charm though. It's so hard to tell what the fuck certain things are that it makes them that much scarier.

I'll agree the graphic in Silent Hill 1 haven't aged as gracefully as other games. As for Capcom atleast they were honest enough to quash all hope once and for all.

What I think Silent Hill did really well--better than any other game in the series, for that matter--is really sell the town itself. It's huge, there are tons of optional locations to explore, all kind of neat storefronts and buildings to see. Later games downplayed roaming the streets in favor of a more linear structure, and I've always thought that was a damn shame.
I've always wanted to see an open-ended survival horror game, with items to find and puzzles to solve spread out over a large area in a nonlinear fashion. Silent Hill, with it's supernatural city and creepy atmosphere, is the perfect franchise to make that happen, and it's kind of a bummer that they've never tried to explore such a concept.

I hear SH: Downpour will be sorta like Shattered Memories with a more open area. So the idea of exploring the town might be making a comeback.
