Got more of my list done... almost halfway now, haha. I'm certainly learning a lot of track names of songs i like in games, too. I was wondering though, could a Ys fan help me out? I'm terrible with this old computer stuff, so could someone tell me what computer the original version of Ys I came out on, for track purposes? Also, I could of swore "Theme of Adol" was in the original, but when I tried to look it up on youtube, all I got was the Ys IV version and stuff about an unused track. I might have typed something wrong in the search bar, but just to make sure, was that song in the original Ys? Thanks for the help in advance.

PC88 was the original platform, I think? Is this the Theme of Adol you're looking for? For the TG-16 version, it's used in the opening cinema after the bit with the narration: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TgoTm0fXBM

Do you have a better idea (roughly) of how many songs are going to be on this now?
Also I assume you're going to make a YouTube channel specifically for this and reupload every song?

Just voted, well knowing that I'll only get all miffed because no one else votes for those cool Euro tunes while everything's infested with Squaresoft. (At least the Squaresoft tracks I voted for hold no risk of showing up in the top 10.) I gave Europe lots of love on my list. Long live C64 and Amiga tunes.

Do you have a better idea (roughly) of how many songs are going to be on this now? Still not really...I won't until I total up everything, to be honest, because it really does depend on the number of votes. What's going to be the minimum threshold for inclusion? 3 points? 4? 5? I have no idea. I'd LIKE to include 700 like the Japanese list, so as long as I'm not scraping the bottom to include a number of single pointers, that's what I'm aiming for. Also I assume you're going to make a YouTube channel specifically for this and reupload every song? For now, probably not. I don't see the point of cluttering up YouTube with songs they already have uploaded, not to mention the time investment, so it'll probably just be a playlist. Of course, that means songs can go down since they're out of my control, which is the trade off. I WOULD like to distribute the whole thing in MP3s, in several packs uploaded on a file sharing site or through torrents. The legality of this gets iffy especially for the small handful of songs that are still being sold, though. I'm going to be providing links for purcahse for all of these, at least. My goal isn't to pirate music, obviously, but rather to expose people to new stuff, and hopefully get them to purchase them as well. I'm going to be keeping track of all of the YouTube links for all of the songs, even the ones that don't make the final list, and put it up when everything's finalized.

ah hmm yeah you have a good point

The X1turbo, PC98, FM77AV, FM7/77, and MSX2 versions came within a half year after the release of the original. As for the Theme of Adol, it was originally meant to be used in Ys I as one of the Darm Tower songs, but ended up being unused (it was included in the sound test menus of 1987 and 1988 releases, though). It was first actually used in the opening of the PC Engine/TG-16 version.

I have a quick question regarding a song's eligibility in the list. I think most would be in agreement that the Dead Island Trailer is one of the best trailers in recent memory, if not one of the best trailers ever. The music really helps sell the emotional story told in the trailer, but I think it also stands on its own. Now, most music used in trailers comes straight from the game/movie, or uses licensed music (like Halo 3 and Gears of War, respectively), but Dead Island's is unique in that its music was commissioned specifically for the trailer itself. It doesn't appear anywhere in the game, or outside of the trailer. I still feel that it falls under the category of videogame music, since it wouldn't have existed if not for a videogame. Let me know if it's eligible. If so, I will leave it in my list. If not, I'll remove it. Here's a link of it without all the sound effects: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CzcOcBb_ms

In this case, yes, it's fine. If there's ever a soundtrack release, I'm sure it'd be on it.

A few more quick questions that I forgot to ask:
I have a couple of instances of music in which the music is unique to its console...that console being the Sega Genesis for us Americans, but the Megadrive for everyone else. How would you like me to phrase it so that it can be parsed easily? Right now I have them listed as Megadrive/Genesis, but I can list them however you like.
Also have similar cases in which the name of the game varies across different regions (like Domino Rally/Minon Everyday Hero/Go! Go! Minon). I posted them without thinking. Should I post it alphabetical order, or is it really even an issue?
Lastly, I made some notes in my post for reference. Should I remove the notes, or leave them be?

You only need to specify the platform if the song is only found in that specific version. So like for Sonic 3D Blast, the Genesis version is completely different from the Saturn version, so that's OK. On the other hand, let's say, TMNT: Turtles in Time for SNES/Arcade and TMNT: Hyperstone Heist for the Genesis. Even though someone might vote for a specific version of a specific song, if there's more than one vote for the song across platforms, then it'll be combined into a single vote. That's what I'll be doing for a lot of Smash Bros songs, too - the vote will count for the song where it originated from. When it comes to compiling a playlist, all versions voted on will be featured, though, so it's not like this will be ignored. You'll just get the original version, plus assorted remixes/arrangements.
Please use the English name when voting, too, if it was localized. Alphabetical order doesn't matter at all since they're all going be resorted anyway - mine's only like that because I'd constructed the list in Excel. For others, please don't number them individually either - I'll need to delete them before I can integrate them into the spreadsheet.
Adding notes in different paragraphs like you did is fine.

Oh, and here's a current running Top 130, of all songs so far with 4 points or more. It's not 100% accurate because I haven't combed through entirely to standardize track names and combine certain arrangements (necessary for a lot of Megaten stuff) but it's a good roundup so far:

I assume since people are still editing their posts
you redid the tally from the beginning instead of continuing on from the previous tally you had in this topic

Nope, that's another reason why it's still just an estimation. I changed a few of mine within the past weekend too and they aren't accounted for either.
