Hope to still see you around sometimes. I always enjoy seeing you on other forums/bumping into you on the net. I'll have a look over at your collection at some point. I still play handheld stuff a lot, including GBC, GBA, DS and PSP games on a fairly regular basis. I feel where you're coming from in terms of interest in gaming. Over the last 2 years I've had to put my time into almost anything BUT gaming for various reasons. Sometimes I just didn't have the interest unless in it was for a couple of series/publishers that I really enjoyed. I may never completely give up gaming but my interests in it have shifted to a narrower niche of games that I actually like playing/putting time into.

The thing of it all is that I actually have a lot of free time during the day in which to play games, but I just don't feel motivated to do it anymore. I was so hyped for Xenoblade and then by the time it came out I had already had my gaming breakdown and was so completely uninterested in it I couldn't put more than a few hours into it. It could be that it really isn't that good of a game (as I suspect, since I really really really dislike the combat, the quest system, and overall gameplay of it) but this seems to apply to basically any game I try to play now. The last thing I made any decent progress in was Monster Land. I haven't played much else for the last 2 months or so.

That's too bad Xenoblade isn't your cup of tea, Ike.
As of right now I'm going through my collection and trying to figure out what I can do without. I've got a starting cull of 20 out of 266. There's more to be figured out through thinking of what I really want to keep and what I just don't care about anymore. It's hard. I am probably going to regret a couple of things, but on the whole I think it's good to purge games you just don't care to keep. I suppose I have this thread to thank for this recent evaluation, although I do want to get The Last Story with some of what I may make from this.

This is why I spend all day diddling with my guitar, being an ass to pretty much everyone on my Facebook, and weirding out everyone on #hg101chat.

Spend most of my days in work, FB, listening to/writing music or cooking now. I'm at the stage where I spend more time talking/reading about games on here than I do playing them haha. I went through a phase between 2001-2003 where I more or less stopped playing games too though so I've no doubt I'll get hooked once again.

Funny enough, I finished an RPG last night.
It might just be a frame of mind thing. Take some time to do whatever else you feel like. Honestly, it might be the best thing for you, and after a while gaming might even feel fresh again, when(if) you do come back to it.

^Exactly. If motivation is the only issue, just take some time off and come back when you feel it's best. I've had Persona 3 and 2 for about half a year now, and I've still yet to finish one or the other. Stopped playing for a few months and started again today, and I think I'm starting to get back into it again. (I find that music helps a lot, for whatever reason.) Don's suppose there's a thread like this for the 360? ;D

Sometimes I think there is such thing as "gaming fatigue" if you surround yourself with playing, reading or talking about vids a lot for a good chunk of your life. You might just need a break, you might just need a change of pace (traveling =]), your tastes may have changed or games really may not carry the 'magic' that they used to. I take breaks from regular gaming when I feel I need to make changes in my life.
I think it's common and could just mean you're branching out/growing as a person. (:

I can't really imagine myself not playing games for months at a time, because I just enjoy evaluating and criticizing game design too much. There are definitely periods where I won't play much for a week or so, but yeah that's about as long a break I usually take.

What I ultimately decided on was just sticking to... kind of a certain time frame, with ~'96 as the cap off year. No Sega/Turbo CD, 3DO, CDI, or early 5th generation either, in the middle of it. I don't want to put up with voice acting and FMV's, or 3D. Then I thought about things some more, and much as I love the Genesis, I can't get into other Sega consoles/handhelds. So, basically just the 2600, arcade games up to '96, NES, TG16, Genesis, SNES, and color-less Game Boy, and that's pretty much all I need.
I'm talking I wouldn't bother with Zelda hacks if I see Ocarina of Time related things in there, or Crimson Echoes for trying to connect Trigger to Cross(I'd rather think Trigger was the end of it and everything ended happily, than to think that that mess of a plot connects to it anyway).
Speaking of, yeah CT was the RPG I beat the other day, and I tore through the different endings yesterday and today. I noticed I fast forwarded a lot though. I don't know if that's a bad sign of what I really feel toward this genre, or perhaps just a tool I find useful for getting through something I've dealt with multiple times...

It's weird, but I find my passion for gaming has waned, but at the same time, I have more fun with them now than I did when I cared more.
There are entire genres that I'd rather just watch other people play than play through myself, and the internet has been very accommodating to that end.

One reason I've lost interest in video games is because of the frequency of vehement arguments about them between people who play them. I'm starting to lose interest in talking to people online, myself. It's like there's always that one douchebag that can't be even the slightest bit considerate. I mean, even if a person is factually wrong in any way, I'd like to think people wouldn't cut off their ability to learn why they are, by just stating "lulz, you're wrong dumbazz." It's like the internet turns people into Pee Wee Herman; 5 year old mind in a 20+ year old body.

Those concerned gonna respond.
Working on it. It's still too early to say, how long it's gonna take for me.

Those concerned gonna respond. Working on it. It's still too early to say, how long it's gonna take for me. Losing interest in gaming, Bumpyroad?! Unpossible! For me, gaming comes in waves. I used to ravenously devour games when I was young. Now I just play a few hours worth each week. I feel like I'm mostly over the collecting part though. I rarely buy games brand new. I have such a long back catalogue of games still wrapped in plastic. I just wait for stuff to hit the $20~$25 mark. Same for consoles. I just wait until the price gets chopped $100 for the newer consoles (like the Switch. Come on Switch. Let's see that price reduction this Christmas).
