Welp, I beated my share of the Area 51 portion for Team Stupid. I took something of the "Phoenix" approach where, despite not starting out with much, I gradually gained more weapons as I could find them. It may have been a bit of a cheat to snag the GEP gun, and it HAS been helpful at a few points (especially blowing up Grays, if you can believe it), but I mostly spent much of the finale with the maximum speed augmentation at full blast. It was particularly fun to get the Illuminati ending this way, outrunning those friggin' Greasels and Karkians. All in all, it was interesting to play DX with relatively un-ideal conditions, though it wasn't screwed to the point of masochism. I learned you don't always need a nanosword to win, nor do you need to blow everything up, only SOME of the things. It also fostered a higher appreciation of stealth elements instead of just Rambo-ing your way through everything, although that does become rather difficult by Area 51. Still, it is beatable, and even if you don't think so, it is save-scummable.

Probably could have done without Herman but, can you really do without Herman? Interesting note, he has no eyebrows - zero, ziltch.

Last night I finished my final run for Team Stupid, and got the AI ending. The final area is really straightforward, but there were a few great moments for nonviolent Denton! Here you can see Denton cowering under a table to stay hidden from two guards. However, there is a very important datacube with important information on the table that we can't reach while crouching. Whatever shall Denton do? What Denton will do is stand up. I'm not even joking. By standing up, activating the datacube, and ducking back under the table again very quickly, the guards don't even notice that somebody just jumped out from under a table no more than ten feet away from them, even though they're looking directly at you. A similar tactic was used to hack the computer in the room. The computer is in an area where the guards will see you. However, the hacking interface doesn't actually start until after a computer finishes its opening animation. Thus, you can quickly run to the computer, activate it, then dive back under the table before the guards react to hack it safely from five feet away. If you're playing a game where you refuse to even knock anybody out like I was, there's no safe way past this area without the cloaking augment (which I do not have). There aren't any shadows to use to hide from the two guards in this screen, and there are another two guards patrolling the bottom. The solution? Activate speed boost, leap up onto the ledge, and open the door while being shot at by four guards (if you don't have the proper key, you will be killed by the guards by the time you can pick the lock), run into the next room, then hide in a dark corner out of line of sight and far enough away that the guards can't track you and eventually give up looking. After that, the worst is over, right? Wrong! The elevator to the next area of the bunker is guarded by these three guys. They have no patrol route, and just stand there waiting for you. To pass these guys, I deliberately allowed myself to be seen, ran behind a wall so that they would try to follow me, then sprinted into the elevator and pushed the button while being shot in the face, like so: Now the worst is over. The rest of the run was basic sneaking with no particularly interesting or challenging moments, so there are no more screenshots. Page was betrayed by his own AI and now Denton rules the world. Huzzah!

Now that the podcast has been recorded and is in the process of being edited, I'm going to stream my final run of Deus Ex this evening at 10:30 PM EST. Here's the stream link!

I've decided to try playing through solo to figure out what the hell went on when I was inactive . This is the "end" result - JC's head got stuck in an NSF guy's ass: I guess the "C" in "JC" stands for "Colon".

I think kal knocked it out of the park here. That's a great summation of the game.
I'm looking forward to hearing the final version of this podcast - there's a lot of good insight from the two masters (Snarboo and Feynman). Somehow I'm thinking a couple of my attempts at jokes aren't going to make it into the final cut ;p. Actually I don't think I made the Detroit Metal City "Public Obscenity Haircut" one because it wouldn't make sense without about 2 minutes of explanation...
Anyway I decided to start a new run, and it's actually going pretty well, aside from not being able to find the stairs up to the top of the Statue of Liberty base. I just shut down the generator in Jojo's warehouse, and I'm kicking myself for not finding the cheap and easy way in. People are hating on me for killing so many NSF people - it was funny when the quartermaster withheld ammo from me because of that.

Sure it did! It's right before the Randomizer starts up...
Also, I wonder, why does Bob Page remind me of L. Bob Rife from the Neal Stephenson novel Snow Crash?
