I gather credit-feeding is only allowed for games, that place you at the start of the stage or something.

How are they gonna handle the voice acting for that? It would be weird not to have the actual actors back, especially in the case of Alyx. Also, why the flying fuck has Valve not spun off a separate developer solely for continuing Half-Life? It's clear there's many people who would love to, Valve could stand to make some money off Half-Life, rather than none, even if it's not as much as what they make from DOTA2. I just don't understand that company at all. I'd be smart for them to ban this and start working on their own one, but likely they don't care or maybe scared(by inability to pull it off). Such a troll of a company either way

as you're making your way through your back catalog it only continues to grow as more and more games continue to be released. True true. www.engadget.com/2017/12/28/half-life-3-fan-venture-project-borealis-is-taking-shape/Me, I'm just gonna play Dark Souls 2, Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. That's pretty much it. Maybe I'll try to squeeze in something else if I manage to Platinum them all this year. Just wandering what's their new game might be, they teased a couple of weeks ago. They sure take time with the reveal.

Great, you found the HG101 Game Finish Thread for 2018! For those who do not know, this thread is meant as a little competition to see who can beat the most games this year. But, it's also for fun, to see what kind of games, and just how many, people on this forum beat in one year. So, feel free to participate even if you don't think you have a shot at winning, we're still interested! I'll be keeping track of everything, and will look at some extra statistics. Some of these statistics might factor in when it comes to the prizes.
However, as it is also a competition, with a to-be-determined prize (or prizes) to be won, there will be rules. Read them carefully please:
When can I claim a game? -You can claim games that you beat in 2018. -They have to be started, at the latest, monday december 18th 2017, and at least half of your playtime has to be in 2018. -A game has to be beatable. Whether that is from getting to the credits at the end of it, or beating all the stages/challenges that the game has. Credits do not always equal beating a game, so please just use your common sense. -If you claim a game, please put the name in hot pink, or in bold. This is mandatory! -Playing on any difficulty it fine, but make sure the game doesn't lock out important parts of the game on lower difficulties. Missing an extra form of the final boss is fine, but missing big chunks of the game isn't. -Due to popular demand, you can now claim games others have already beaten. But, don't claim one game more than once! -Make sure to include the system/version. Again, this is mandatory to note.
Can I just cheat my way to victory? -No!! No cheats, codes, or save-states allowed. Please play the game as intended. -No major glitches that let you skip major parts or otherwise cheese your way through the game. -Sometimes, beating a game doesn’t require you to beat everything stage in the game. That’s fine in the case of, say, Super Mario Bros. 3’s branching paths. But things like using Warp Zones to skip entire worlds isn’t allowed.
What about ports and remakes? -Straight-forward ports or remakes don’t count as separate games. For example, the NES and SNES versions of Super Mario Bros. 3 can’t both be claimed. HD remasters are generally too similar to the original as well. -Full-on remakes that change enough are allowed to be claimed separately. Think of games like MegaMan Powered Up, Pokémon FireRed/LeafGreen, or the Final Fantasy I remakes as examples that change enough to be counted as separate. -If you can make a good case for something to be counted separately, by all means do so. I’m sure this won’t happen too often, so I’ll be happy to go through the effort of looking into it.
Any special rules for arcade games? -Looping, short arcade games like Donkey Kong can’t be claimed. -Arcade games that can be credit-fed have a credit limit: The amount of credits you can spend is the amount of stages times 2. I realize it's not perfect, but for the sake of this being a competition, there have to be some limits. -By credit-feeding, I mean games that don't put you back after dying AND continuing. So, for example, Metal Slug puts you in the exact place you died after you lose a life or use a continue.
On special cases: -Expansions that are playable (and can be bought) without the original game are always eligible. Examples include the Shovel Knight DLC or the expansion packs to games like Quake.
-Other expansions that are separate enough, even if they require you to own the base game, are fine too. But, they have to be sizable enough. Big enough to be comparable enough to the base game. The Roller Coaster Tycoon expansions are good examples. If you're unsure, just ask. -Co-op is allowed, but if you play a game taking turns (or if you play a game like Super Mario Bros. 3 in 2-player mode), please make sure you play at least around half the game.
-‘Episodes’ count separately if they are treated as separate games. So, Sonic 4 or Keen episodes are separate games, but obviously DOOM episodes aren’t.
-Fighting games have to be beaten with at least 15 characters. If a game doesn't have that many, obviously, this means beating it with all characters.
Final words: -If you're unsure about whether or not something counts or not, just post it, and if needed the community will help me figure it out. -Please play Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and not just either one. And that's final. -Have fun! -In addition, some people attempted the 'alphabet challenge' last year. This is simply playing at least one game starting with every letter of the alphabet. No prizes or anything for people to succeed, but it's something you could do.
One more minor rule to consider: do not lie to yourself for your own sake.

I have allowed public opinion and the social stigma surrounding "sex sells" type of characters to influence my interests. As a result I, for the longest time, have missed out on Tomb Raider: Anniversary, which ended up being the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time sequel that I always wanted, at least as far as the mechanics are concerned. I think it was a smart decision on side of developers to put remaining fanservice aside completely and double down on her "anti-hero survivor" part of personality instead. I think Uncharted played a part of it. Nathan was well received after all.

Were any of the voting polls popular in these boards? We could bring that back with a Mods help as a prize for a winner maybe. Just sayin'

The problem is that if you come up with some arbitrary number of credits, it's either going to be too much, or too little. It'll take ages to get through certain games, whereas others are easy enough to do within a handful of credits. You don't have to claim every game beaten. That's Ok (especially if we'll decide to make it for fun). I mean, don't make it sound like this thread is the 'second coming of Jesus' or something, if you can't beat a game under certain conditions, it shouldn't stop you from completing it the way you see fit. One credit per stage for the arcade games sounds both-pretty optimal and manageable for mortals, like most of us here i reckon.
