I'm still on chapter 3, on account of wanting to get all my Jobs up to par (usually level 9, since the EXP needed inflates drastically after that), and the enemies here give good EXP. My party is actually in the 60s right now... ...Also, Ringabel ended up leveling up enough as a Merchant to get the Big Pharma skill, and I was able to start a loop that gave me close to a million pg in just an hour. Now I'm pulling in double EXP and JP! Nice! A friend of mine told me a trick involving rob blind and Mammon nemesises; unfortunately I've only gotten one of those and a crapton of level 99 enemies I can't hope to beat. ugh. I just started Chapter 4, and I think I need to grind some more. I'll have to raise up Merchant since it was kind of useless up to the point I was at (like level 5 or so), that sounds like it would help a lot!

Yea - I did alright against the earth dragon, considering, but it's one of those things where you almost need to die, then try again just to have a chance (unless you're using a guide), since you don't really know which element goes with which stone thingy. At least as far as I know... If I recall, the dragon's element roughly corresponds to the region's crystal. Which leaves the light and dark dragons, but I guess one could associate the Great Chasm with darkness, and Vestals with light. Interesting; that makes sense based on the two I've fought so far...

The trick is to fight a relatively weak enemy, and equip all your characters for as much defense as possible. Also equip at least one with the Blessed Shield. The character with Big Pharma should have a Job like White Mage to maximize their healing potential. So, have one of your characters attack the enemy. Might want to equip a weaker weapon, too. Have your Healer cast Big Pharma, which gives you PG equal to the amount of HP they restore on the enemy. Have whoever's got the Blessed Shield use it as an item, and cast it on the entire party. This will deal with any scratch damage you receive. The last party member should either Default or also have a Blessed Shield. Now activate autobattle, fast forward, and leave it plugged in and running for a little while.

I'll admit, I used Merchant a lot in the early game. They have S-rank in Staves, but don't have quite as big a strength penalty as White Mage, and there's a really descent staff you can get from the town building game that costs only 8000 pg. Combining this with the Knight's Two-Handed Support Ability, and Ringabel was my main damage dealer for a while.

I forget where I heard that too, but I guess I didn't do it right since I tended to use spears, lol. I'm forgetting the name of it, but the attack where you pay money was useful a couple of times though.

Another bit of a game breaker I've discovered is Valkyrie's High Jump. Just be sure to Default a couple of times so you aren't a sitting duck, but with a spear equipped, I'm always hitting the 9999 damage cap, not to mention the turn where the enemy can't hit you.

I still haven't opened my copy. This game sounds gloriously broken.

Sounds broken but to beat the bosses in the final chapters the game expects you to break it. Those final bosses are a bitch.

Definately. I forgot to mention this to JoJo, but the game does have some "try then die" fights, but they're mostly in the final two chapters, and at that point they don't really give any meaningful rewards. Some of the pre- and post-battle dialogue can be amusing though. Before then you can mostly deal with what tricks bosses throw at you within the fights themselves.

Bravely Default: Cavalierly Recycle Your Assets.
Man, this freaking game. I was so into it for the first four chapters, and couldn't put it down, since I was having a blast experimenting various classes and their abilities. Some time after that the game decides to stop having new things and let you run through all the boss encounters and dungeons again, a la Mega Man style. Half of them mandatory. And after doing that for 2 hours I put this game on hold, and it's been 5 months since I last touched it.
File this under 'good game ruined by poor pacing'.
