Ok, so at 4.5 million dollars, Bloodstained is now officially the most funded video game on Kickstarter of all time. And we still have 26 hours to go. And Shovel Knight is in the game! And we're getting a mini prequel game, like Mighty Gunvolt.
I am very, very happy for IGA. And quite shocked too.

And yet I'm sure Konami flat out said to him "no one wants a traditional Metroidvania anymore".

This is so awesome. I hope this and Mighty No 9 kill it with sales just to shove it in Konami's and Capcom's face.

Now comes the tricky part, though. Actually delivering on all of these expectations. They also need to not promptly drive the franchise into the ground if the first one turns out the way we're all hoping it will.

Yeah, it's a pretty strange feeling to have backed this without so much as a proper screenshot to go by. Like, wtf did I just buy?
I'm looking at the DS Castlevanias expecting something like them, but prettier. I am not, however, expecting this to blow me away like SotN. That is unrealistic, because:
1) It's 2015. We've had sooo many Metroidvanias since 1997 and we've pretty much already seen it all. And before Bloodstained is out, we will probably have had a couple more. 2) I'm much older and video games don't have the same impact on me anymore. 3) The music I've heard so far, at least 'Cursed Orphan', is pretty much the most horrific piece of Castlevaniaesque music I've heard since... well, ever. But I hear others like it. Good for them. I can accept it if it's a boss battle theme, but having to listen to it in any of the stages will not work for my poor old ears.

Yeah, the baroque style of music in SotN was just perfect, especially mixed with the hard rocking guitars in the inverted castle.

Honestly SotN just might be my pick for best video game soundtrack of all time, it's so fucking good!

Also relevant because the music makes me super nostalgic for Goblin and the themes from the Phantasm movies: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LrsLvHMGAALike I won't lie, if I were Iga for this I wouldn't even hire a composer again I would just license Goblin's entire catalog and few other choice tracks.

Apropos of nothing, but did you know that there was going to be a live action movie of Castlevania directed by the director of Stomp The Yard?
Seriously.

I had no idea! I only remember the incarnation Paul WS Anderson was involved in. The script treatment was pretty much trash though, it was like a really crummy ripoff of The Keep. I remember the collective nerd explosion/disappointment when Christian Bale slipped that he was working on something with Konami. Everyone assumed it was an MGS movie and there was massive hype for about an hour, but then it turned out to be Castlevania and that information about the story leaked and it died fast.
I remember it was towards the end of that phase where like every property was licensed to have a movie developed (even Metroid and Crazy Taxi were in there).

We're talking about the same movie, Paul WS Anderson either wrote the script or was the producer or something, but the director was someone different who, like I said, previously directed the hip hop dance movie Stomp The Yard, I never forgot that because man, talk about a switch, going from that to Castlevania. I'm sure it would have been awful, so thank God it was never made and us Castlevania fans were spared the embarrassment.

Yeah I'm glad we got quality CV products instead like Castlevania: Judgement and Castlevania: Order of Shadows.
