Judgment wouldn't be good no matter what.
If they dropped the "fighting game" charade and turned it into an actual Musou or BASARA-style hack-and-slash, it would be _better_, but most people would still consider it "not a real Castlevania", and therefore crap.

Where's my Professor Layton, Sakurai? Where's my Starfy, Sakuai? Where's my Famicom Detective Club protagonist, Sakurai?

Judgment was trash. Just controlling the characters was painful. Maybe if they were, you know, actually FACING each other at all times... but no. Running around like mentally unstable chickens was IGAs idea of a good time.
I agree it could've been done Soul Calibur style instead and it would've been tolerable. Or maybe something like BlazBlue or even Mortal goddamn Kombat.
I did like the music in the intro though.

I believe you just get to unlock Shanoa early if you link the two.

Good you mentioned it could have been a hack and slash because Castle mode had the mooks. I recall the camera never tracked and shifted if a mook was in front so it was the best game mode.
Judgment was like they tried to make a Power Stone clone but IGA had no idea how to make a fighting game so everything was conflicted, it may have ended up the same regardless of console. Sub weapons were useless, characters imbalanced, camera was not suitable for the action.

Where's my Professor Layton, Sakurai? Nintendo doesn't own Layton, Level 5 does, and they've been releasing his games on iOS.

Nintendo doesn't own Layton, Level 5 does, and they've been releasing his games on iOS. I am fully aware, but there are lots of other third-party characters in Smash nowadays. It was a joke, anyway - the whole "fans have unrealistic expectations" bit...

"fans have unrealistic expectations" Like Geno apparently. Honestly though, outside of Robin, I really don't care about any of these Newcomers. I guess I somehow convinced myself of a lot of things that just doesn't seem to be happening. (Kellam assist trophy, subspace type story mode.) But some of the choices they've made are just terrible. (imo) Oh well... as another has said, I'll never be satisfied with a Smash Roster.

Well, on the bright side, I think we can all agree that this looks to be much better as a game than Brawl ever did. All I was really wanting was Brawl without the tripping and the really lame stuff like the chaingrabs, and that's basically what we got out of this, from the looks of things. I never played as the Ice Climbers or Mewtwo, so that doesn't hurt that much.
...But I still wanted King. K. Rool. I'm not asking much here, Sakurai.
*sigh* Maybe in five years from now somebody will make a mod to reskin Dedede like that.

I didn't mind the tripping too much. It sucks when it happens, but other players slip up just the same, and it's pretty funny (in a evil sort of way) to take advantage of it. Smash has always been about the roster as far as I'm concerned, which is why I like Brawl the best. Gameplay has improved, but few major changes have happened since the start. I can't actually judge the newest one since I have yet to play it, but I really doubt I'll like it more than the last.
While on the topic of Brawl though, (sorta) did anyone else have problems getting the Wii to read the disc after a while? It worked for maybe a year, eventually I could only play a match or two before it would tell me an error has occurred or the disc cannot be read. I've had this same issue with two Wii systems and 3 new copies of the game, all with the same result. I like to think others share my pain, but I suppose it's possible Nintendo hates me.

It's because Brawl uses a dual-layer DVD, which the Wii wasn't really designed to be able to read at any efficient level. A lot of third party devs understandably whined about this amid Nintendo's insistence that everyone had to get their games to fit on a single layer if at all possible. The only other dual-layer Wii game I know of is Xenoblade. I also had similar problems with my Wii reading Brawl. The loading times got longer and longer, and the drive noises got louder, before it eventually just stopped being able to pass the initial black loading screen. I strongly suspect that dual-layer discs wear out the Wii's drive much faster. Nintendo's official lens cleaning kit didn't help, so I had to find a replacement drive and switch out the entire thing.

Well that sucks... kinda stupid too. I didn't know about the dual-layer thing, so I did a few google searches and that seems to be the case. However some people say that you can ship your Wii to Nintendo and they'll fix that issue for you, no charge. However this was said years ago before the release of the WiiU so... here's hoping that's still a thing. In any case, thanks for the info. Regardless of how this turns out, I'm glad to know what the issue is now.

Supposedly the Wii was a really fragile machine. I've heard a lot of stories from people about defective units, though I've never personally run across any issues with the machine. Guess I hardly ever used it, though, so that might be why.

The Wii ain't perfect by any means, but it's lasted longer than my 360 or PS2 so I can't shit on it. In the case of Smash Brothers, my Wii will still read any other disc other than SSBB, which is a shame since it's really the only game I have left on the Wii that'd I'd care to play.
