Weird, it's like the one system I never had break on me. And I got a ton of play on that thing. As for the Dual Layer thing. Brawl would have...bad days. Where it would just crash on me. I'm sure that's why as it never happened on any other game. But I didn't know Xenoblade was dual layer too. I never had any issues with that one.

It's not even that there was a shortage of good games for the thing. I guess the controller played a pretty big role in me hardly using the system, though. Just not very convenient, even with a pro pad, as it still had to be attached to a remote.

I used a Gamecube controller all the time. And I played a lot of Virtual Console. I got a lot of use out of that thing. Of course that's where my mom's second husband died, and she got weird. I think may have a fondness for the Wii that exists beyond it's library.

It wasn't until recently that I got one of those Gamecube controller extension cords. Would have been a huge help years ago.

Only now do I realize how amazingly little I actually have used my Wii since I bought it. It was mainly a Virtual Console and Brawl machine for me through most of its life. The aggravating control methods meant that I rarely had the patience for most of its "long form" retail games, and online play was universally shitty across the board for the few games that supported it. I'll probably return to my Wii backlog once I finally get around to transferring everything to my Wii U, though. I've put it off because it's a huge pain in the ass to do. They must have gotten better at optimizing the file order for dual layer discs when Xenoblade rolled around.

Dolphin solves most of these problems. I was surprised to find that they even support Virtual Console and Wii Ware games, though the controls for Adventure Rebirth seem to not work correctly for me.

I've gotten some more time to play. I've unlocked everyone but Duck Hunt, Game & Watch, and Jigglypuff. I'm now pretty comfortable with the controls, and I'm definitely having a blast. Little Mac might be my favorite character so far - at least, he's the one I've had the most fun and put the most time into playing so far. His aerials are atrocious, but he's an absolute beast on the ground, extremely quick and hard hitting. His KO gimmick is pretty cool as well. I'm also very fond of Murabito/Villager, particularly with his pocket ability and his down+b series, which grows a tree. Kind of reminds me of the gathering evidence gimmick Wright has in MvsC3. In general, I think the game is great. It's just really fun to play. I know that doesn't really *mean* anything, but it just is.

I had a copy of Brawl that I got used at Gamestop. Since I'm playing on a WiiU I'm assuming the reason it crashed reliably in some sections of the game was due more to the fact that the disc had been scratched.
In any case if I get the download version of the game then through the magic of Nintendon't and Not64 I can have all 4 Smash games on the same console at one time. Dang, huh?

There's no way to play Melee on the Wii U. It's backwards compatible with Wii but not Gamecube.
I do think they could make a killing off a downloadable Melee HD on Wii U with online play. There's so many obsessive dudes who just absolutely refuse to let go of that game (they're not getting any younger though), as well as a whole new crowd that became enamored with it through Twitch streams. Its competitive scene outlived Brawl's, and will almost certainly surpass Smash 4's as well.
Project M has been getting more tournament play since Nintendo gave their implicit approval of it, though. Hosts were initially avoiding it due to its questionable legality, but Nintendo could have easily shut the whole thing down a really long time ago if they wanted to.

Isn't Metroid Prime Trilogy's disc a dual-layered one too? All of its content (a full Wii game, two enchanced GC games, a ton of extras) probably doesn't fit on a standard Wii DVD. I've had it since it was released back in 2009/2010, and it never crashed on me - Brawl is a completely different story, though

Yep, that's dual layered as well.
I think an HD version of Prime Trilogy would be another smart way to pad out the Wii U's library. A lot of people (myself included) missed out on the original set, because it was a Gamestop exclusive and went out of print quickly, meaning that used copies have shot up in price. The same thing ended up happening to Xenoblade in the US.

The original versions are still the way to go for the Prime series. Prime Trilogy has worse visuals in exchange for motion control, for some reason.

I pre-ordered Super Smash Bros 3DS. Feels soooooooooo good.
My complain for the final rooster is the removal of Ice Climbers (they were from my favourite choices in Brawl). And the excuse that 3DS couldn't handled them well enough sounds too lame.
