It was definitely one of those games like NieR or Deadly Premonition that had a cold initial reception, but saw sales pick up later once its reputation became well known.

The JP version was severely censored, though. Wouldn't think that would have flown too well with anyone.

What was censored for NMH in Japan besides the gore? I know Shadows of the Damned had its tits covered up for JP. (They got an illustration by Kentarou Miura on the manual, though.)
Of course, none of Grasshopper's releases have exactly rocked the charts. Suda has gotten very good at making games that are polished if nothing else on a limited budget, though. It's why they weren't affected too badly when Shadows of the Damned and Killer is Dead both flopped hard.

The gore was half the point of the game. Everything was cranked up to 11.

Looking into it, the Red Zone edition on PS3 was uncensored and actually upped the rating from a D to a Z, so that's probably why it sold so much better in Japan...

Or maybe it was just because it was on the PS3...?

Or maybe it was just because it was on the PS3...? No, it was already ported to PS3 and 360 with a D rating.

The Bayo 2 demo is out in US and EU and I've played it. Controls and attack strings definitely feel more fluid and natural than in the original. Umbran Climax makes for a great secondary use of your magic meter that doesn't require an accessory, works against bosses that can't be Torture Attacked, and can be used to expand combos instead of simply ending them (basically, it puts you into Serious Mode for as long as your meter lasts). The mid-air combat sequence in the demo controls much better than I expected, and isn't annoying or vapid like similar scenes in Bayo 1.
(Bayo 1 did have a very difficult to unlock accessory that would put you into permanent Serious Mode, though rankings would not be recorded.)

The stuff I've seen convinced me that this will probably be the best and most spectacular hardcore action game since...Devil May Cry (PS2) and Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)...
Fuck, I am ready!

You know, while the short hair makes her look better, this compared with the hair sleeves always makes her new design look to me like she uses her arm pit hair now.

Not until morning, at least. My brain has been tired out by programming/work-related stuff.
I know, I can't believe I'm waiting either
