I'll never, ever, ever understand why so many people are under impression that MML2 ends on a cliffhanger. Did we play the same game? It's an open-ended ending, played for comedy. There is no implication whatsoever of there being another game being made (or of one being necessary) nor is there any tension about the scenario presented. There is full confidence that the situation will be resolved, it's just that "it's gonna take some time lol". It's as if people don't know what to make of an ending if they're not visibly shown every last detail, with it ending on "and everybody lived happily ever after".
Anyway, I'd really like to back this project, but the options suck. I would want a physical copy, but like hell am I paying 90 bucks to get one (with nothing else). It's also not the kind of game I'd want to play on PC (I've opened up to PC gaming a lot compared to in the past, but I still prefer to avoid action games, instead focusing on VNs, as they have low system requirements and I don't have to concern myself with controllers). Sooo....I guess I'll just hope it gets funded and then hopefully it'll eventually appear on some system I own.
As for the team making otome games/VNs, I'm not worried, but I wish they'd make more VNs. Sweet Fuse was great, I'd be all over more comcept otome games.

This KS is not doing terribly well. It's not even at 350 000 yet. I watched the latest episode of Final Bosman and he made a few good points why this is not really taking off like Mighty No.9, Bloodstained or Shenmue 3.
The one thing that really stood out to me is that Inafune is back, asking for more money, BEFORE his first project is even out. That is a big no-no for me. We haven't played Mighty no.9 yet and we have no evidence that comcept is capable of delivering something that is even worth playing. Launching a MML style kickstarter before delivering on the first promise is such a bad idea, terrible even.
It's also really strange and off-putting how some kickstarters (this, and also Shenmue 3) seems to be alright with delivering an incomplete game. The stretch goals for both Red Ash and Shenmue 3 don't seem to add cool extras to the core game - they ARE the core game. At the minimum stretch goal, we're not getting a complete product, are we? Red Ash only has three chapters and not even close to all the areas that are in the concept art. Nooo, but keep pouring money into the KS and we get a tiny bit more of what is essentially the full game.
Next we'll be seeing kickstarters where the minimum stretch goal is something like "Title screen with fancy logo". And then the next goal is "An actual level that you can play".
Backing Red Ash with those 90 dollars to get a physical copy of a game that, by the look of things, may not even have the full story is basically out of the question. The bare minimum funding goal should ALWAYS be the whole damn intended thing, and then they can put extra modes, bonus chapters and other goodies (that weren't even planned for the core package) in the stretch goals. Like, well, Bloodstained pretty much.

So is this the standard business model for aging Japanese developers now? Get Kickstarter to fund a re-hash of an already existing franchise? I mean, I understand Inafune's history with Mega Man Legends. But the Mighty No 9 Kickstarter got a shitton of money. Is there really no publisher interested in working with them this time around? They're using kickstarter to get interest from possible investors and publishers. Just having classic clout doesn't mean shit to the industry today, you gotta prove you have an installed fanbase willing to throw oodles of money at you first. It honestly kind of annoys me. I get why it's happening, but these kickstarters are rarely honest about the actual goal of raising awareness from larger funding networks, and it gives idiots (and there's a lot of them) wrong ideas on gaming budgets, which of course hurts any indie kickstarters looking for majority funding out there, with more and more people shouting scam or rip-off. It also stinks of abusing your fanbase by tugging their nuts along in a very half-honest way. They are helping, but not as much as they think. When you start making other business deals, it burns out a lot of supporters, which has been happening a lot with Mighty No.9 in the past year. I wish there was a better way to get funding for these titles and to see more work from these legendary creative minds, but nobody has figured it out yet, and that worries me.

Honestly I get the feeling that Inafune is like George Lucas---some kind of genius when he's having his hand held, and a slop generator when on his own. Unfortunately they both chafe under authority, even if in this case it's arguably for their own good.

I don't see that right now. Nobody has even played Mighty No.9 fully yet.
If anything, he's kind of shit at business when it comes to audience relationships.

We haven't played Mighty no.9 yet and we have no evidence that comcept is capable of delivering something that is even worth playing. comcept already has a number of games out, most of which have been received pretty well. Even if Mighty No. 9 were out, it wouldn't be any more of an indication of how good Red Ash would be than those considering Mega Man Legends plays significantly differently than the mainline Mega Man series.

Well, you're right. Though I think people view the kickstarter projects as their own separate things. A big chunk of the potential Red Ash backers are probably the same people who already backed Mighty No.9, and they probably want to see their first "investment" come to life before backing something new. I'm not sure if treating your customer as a publisher is the greatest thing. We don't have the same mindset as a publisher. We don't want to make money, we just want nice things. But heck, I honestly didn't know Comcept was involved in Soul Sacrifice, Sweet Fuse, Yaiba and such. And I honestly thought Azure Striker Gunvolt was Inti Creates only. Then again Inti Creates confuses me sometimes. Comcept and Inti seems to be rather close or something?

Isn't Inti Creates also working on Might No 9?

I said it before and I'll say it again---while all the lost opportunities for Mega Man fans are definitely lamentable, I'm still pretty sure Capcom had some good reasons for letting Inafune go.

On one hand I can understand the funding for this project starting before Might No. 9 releases; other companies have done similar things with Kickstarter, such as inXile making a Kickstarter for Torment: Tides of Numenara before Wasteland 2 came out. At the same time though, I'm just not that enthused about backing this kickstarter for whatever reason. I kind of think I'll just wait and see how things go. It's as if people don't know what to make of an ending if they're not visibly shown every last detail, with it ending on "and everybody lived happily ever after". An ending doesn't need to be presented in a super-depressing or shocking way, in order for it to be a cliffhanger. Just because the ending was played for laughs, that doesn't mean that there's no hint shown that a sequel is intended or necessary.

I guess this is part of the usual life cycle of a software development
Mighty surely is finished by now with only QA and bug ridding left , so most the muscle behind the project is done and free for their next proyect.
