In Wolverine: Adamantium Rage on the Genesis/Mega Drive, you could get killed by Elsie-Dee, a little android girl with a bomb inside of her. I think that she may have acted as a sort of timer on stages. If you take too long to finish a stage, she stalks you and blows you up. Freaked me out as a kid, and it still freaks me out a bit as an adult. D:

You know, I'm really curious why Eldritch Abominations never bothered me as a kid, because that seems to be a theme here.

Probably because they're a bit of a complicated concept for most children to understand. Although Giygas manages to be scary as shit to people of all ages. Speaking of sugar-coated monstrosities...:

I've only seen videos or LPs of Darkseed, but the game indeed has some messed-up stuff in it.

This bloody game(Be wary, the sound is horrific) It's not shown in this video, but near the start of the game giant spiders will drop down and eat you. I think my younger self would have have shat himself if I'd gotten far enough into the game to see those death scenes, yikes! *shudders* I also recall another C64 game, Miner 2049er I believe, where upon death the character would devolve/transform into a spider like creature. The very concept that of that was utterly horrifying to me and I never played the game more than once. Jesus Christ! Well, now I know what game the animations crew for Dead Space must have played as kids! D: I think Visceral Games also drew inspiration from another scifi themed survival horror published by EA: And speaking of Beyond Forbidden Forest, let's not forget about its equally freaky prequel...those giant toads used to give me nightmares back then, proof that Paul Norman was very good at scary stuff in his games. Anyway, I haven't played Miner 2049er, but I remember another C64 platformer called Dino Eggs where you could be turned into a spider or crushed by a giant dinosaur paw.

What the fuck in the hell is this? What game is this from!? It's from Dark Seed (well, at least according this; I've not played the game. I'm impressed how creepy the graphics of a game from 1992 still are. I think the scariest game that I played as a kid was Resident Evil 4 on the Wii (I was around 9 when that came out), mostly due to the zombies' appearance. I was fine with Dead Rising, though, oddly enough.

Speaking of exploding robot girls, who here played Oni back in the day? I did, and I honestly forgot that scene. Good god... Anyway, I'm gonna pick Fantastic Voyage for Amiga. First, there's the box art: WHY IS THERE AN EYE LOOKING IN TO THE BLOODSTREAM!? Then there was the first boss, which doesn't bother me now, but at the time its writhing legs and huge size compared to the Proteus was horrifying. Weirdly, visiting it again it's also an exceedingly easy boss that only gave me trouble back then because I panicked at the sight of it.

My Metroid-fu is rusty. What's so unsettling about this particular shot of Maridia, again? If I sound picky, it's because I still find THE ENTIRETY OF SUPER METROID unsettling, save for those friendly critters that teach you wall-jumping.

Point taken. You could theoretically remove all of the enemies found throughout Maridia and have me wander around listening to the music, and still break me.
