"dead" isn't something applicable to something that can be revived. If there's a finality to a creative work, it's because the author wished it. It could stop because the means aren't there, or because the author lost the legal rights, but those aren't things set in stone.

I'm pretty sure Alex Kidd is beyond dead at this point. And what a shame, Alex Kidd games are generally better than Sonic games in my opinion.

Alone in the dark? Silpheed? Most of great pc adventure franchises? Only god knows how much I miss the gold era of Monkey Island 1-2, Simon the sorcerer 1-2, discworld, laura bow...even leisure suit larry (LOL!)
I'm mostly a pc gamer but Castlevania is the most striking loss coming to my mind: only hope is that the Netflix thing will do well with season 2 and *maybe* we will see a Castlevania: the animated series kinda game.

Yup, as a huge Castlevania fan it's definitely hard to take the idea of the series being over with, at the very least a throwback title by Wayforward would be cool. But I'd rather something be over with than keep going but suck and with Konami the way they are these days wellllllll.....

I hardly think Castlevania is dead, we just had a cartoon released a month ago and five games during the last console generation. Mind you the quality of the games were subpar at best..

Wasn't the first Lords of Shadow generally well regarded and the franchises best selling game? What's bad about it?

Wasn't the first Lords of Shadow generally well regarded and the franchises best selling game? What's bad about it? It honestly doesn’t feel like a Castlevania title to me. QTEs, boring mash the button combos etc- I imagine for people who enjoy God of War etc it is fine but I don’t think it has the feel, pace nor difficulty of what the series was initially about...at least to me anyway...

Yeah, I like LoS just fine, it was some great boss battles and setpieces beyond that awful opening, but it doesn't really feel much like a Castlevania game (and it originally wasn't). Can't say for the sequels though.

Ah, so a problem of franchise identity crisis, like how Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem Awakening have long lasting fans worried but the more generic direction of them selling way better than the previous incarnations.

It doesn't help that Mirror of Fate is trash. Flea men that take minutes to kill aren't exactly high on my list of Castlevania elements.

Parasite Eve. Pretty much dead, where can you go from the 3rd Birthday? By the by, Square Enix should just give (rebooted) Parasite Eve to Yoko Taro and say "go wild, give them hell".
