Very nice, but I don't think you guys should leave out the fact that the main tank was totally ripped off of Masamune Shirow's "Dominion Tank Police". It doesn't just look like it, it is EXACTLY the same design.

Older SNK games were uncensored, at least in Europe. I remember playing KoF '95 in an arcade with Mai's... er... 'assets' unchanged. I'm fairly certain the first Metal Slug had red blood here as well. KOF 95, as an arcade, was uncensored everywhere. It was the american Neo-Geo cart the one that you had to use a code to bring out the blood and beautiful bouncy breasts. Hmm.... or was it the Neo-Geo CD version??

Got me there. I forgot the double treads. This pic is from New Dominion I believe, the tank went thru various designs changes during the manga too. It even moves the same way in the anime. Here's another pic:

I never knew that, thanks for the pics! I'll add this bit before it goes officially live.

No problem Kurt. I don't know if you want to add this, as it is extremely obscure trivia, but most of Irem's "Air Duel" soundtrack was completely recycled and put into GunForce 2 and the Metal Slug series (which tells me that it was either the only "good" feature of the game, or Irem just ransacked and plundered its already failed product to save some money). Here are the details about Air Duel's tracks:
- The second level's track contains a synth solo (after 32 seconds) which was performed with a sax in "Metal Slug 2" (mission 3). - The third level's track was remixed with electric guitar in "Metal Slug 3" (mission 1, underwater way).

Just a couple of notes: AES games are never "ports" at all and the SS version of MS doesn't keep "all of the animation", either (indeed, it's quite evident where they made frame cuts. It slows down more than the original, also

Yeah I need to fix that. Some sound effects are missing too (like the MISSION START bit). Generally it's much better than the PSOne ports though.

I think it would be worth mentioning how the thing the captured player-character is strapped in in the final mission of MS3 (the thing spitting out all the clones) is pretty-much the spitten image of the last boss from the original Contra.
But still, awesome article. I heart Metal Slug.
