Ok, fine: my suggestion for improvement is deletion. With extreme prejudice. Once you cross the line of delusional double-speak, you've pretty much rocketed yourself miles past the point of simple mistakes and second chances. If you don't watch out, dude, you'll be banned with extreme prejudice. Seriously, you can't expect to come onto a site with a tight-knit community such as ours and for us to not notice your assholery. Please be courteous and if you want to defend your own opinion, back it up with something worth reading (without sounding condescending or downright mean). Shape up or get the hell out.

As much as I think the games covered are a pile of fermented crap, that's going a bit too far. This guy almost makes recap look like a nice, modest and caring person by comparison.

Devil's advocates are a good thing. It's so refreshing seeing something almost everyone make fun of defended with passion. That said I really enjoyed reading the article,it's well written and the interview is interesting. However it has two things I didn't like: 1. The lack of the infamous cinemas.I know that they're all over Youtube but in order to review a game you have to include every aspect of it,and those movies are part of the games. 2. The "one you get over/learn/ignore the nuances in the control/cinemas/voice you like the game" statement,as already explained by Rey.Mind you,I never played the games so perhaps controls aren't that terrible, who knows... Criticism aside,I repeat: nice work, keep it up. Phantom Hourglass has zero fetch quests. Perhaps the reason that makes Phantom Hourglass one of my favorite Zelda games ever.

I have to admit when I first read the article, I thought you were whitewashing the games too much. Reading the comments here though, I'm glad you took the time to write an article on the game that didn't consist of "the cinemas are weird and the games are crap."
Now all the site needs is for someone to write an in-depth article on Hotel Mario.

Hotel Mario is better than the first two Zeldas. I'd rate it as one of the best games on the system, and good enough to be compared to other Mario games (especially that single screen arcade one, Mario Bros). It plays like an old arcade game, like Donkey Kong, Popeye... Or Chuckie Egg if anyone has played that.
Single screen stages with multiple height levels, and lots of doors to close. The controls are also very tight and well executed.

But seeing how I don't have a CD-I or emulator (or even know where to begin to find one) I never even mentioned it. Is it close to Elevator Action except single screen? Or even like Mappy?

I had an opportunity to buy these two games and Hotel Mario for $50 this weekend.....but I felt bad about myself and didn't.

I just got finished watching the Angry Video Game Nerd reviews of the Zelda CD-I games (link: www.cinemassacre.com/new/?page_id=18 bottom of the page) and I got to say, while I've never played the games myself, I was surprised the reviews actually focused on the gameplay and controls and didn't just make fun of the god awful cartoon animations. In fact, in both cartoon ones and in the live action one, very little attention is given to the worst aspects of the games, the voicing and the animation. However, he presents them as if the games themselves are nearly unplayable, with broken controls, frustrating mechanics, and annoying framerates. However, I just finsihed reading the articles on the games here and it makes them sound almost alright! I don't know who to believe, I guess I got to play them myself, but after seeing AVGN having to crotch a million times to get an item or having to deal with 15 second load times, I think I'll probably hate them.

They are not alright. The controls ARE horrible and you are going to die a LOT before you learn how to safely hit an enemy. Yes the game is annoying, frustrating and unforgiving.
If there's a reason to even play the games it would be for the cutscenes, they are so bad that they are good. The rest of the game is just plain bad.
If you have any way of playing them, then just try them yourself and form your own opinion. The guy that wrote the article is fond of the games and even though his opinions on why he thinks the games are "good" are understandable, I don't think they are valid because he basically said to 'forget' about the bad controls, frustrating mechanics and unforgiving enemies so you can enjoy the game. Problem is, 99% of bad games would be good if you are able to forget those things that make them bad.
But anyway, there are quite a few people that like the CD-i Zeldas. I wonder if they would have really liked the games if they weren't Zelda themed.

Possibly. I think I'd have liked them more if they weren't Zelda themed; I cringe at the dialogue for these characters, as well as the scenario. Tolemac? Come on, can't they have a little more imagination than just reversing the spelling of "cameloT"?

Try and think of the CDi Zeldas article on this site as a reversed "Cranky Gamer" feature. And of course, play it for yourself if you don't know who to believe.

Wow, I didn't read that part. Forget about the bad controls? How the hell do you forget about an aspect of the game that virtually determines if it is playable or not?
I do know some people who dig these games, mainly for the music. The article even focuses a lot of its praise on the music. I listened to what I could on YouTube of the music, and it's awful in my opinion. Some gangraped mangled mess of broken electronica and techno music, usually two of my favorite music genres, at least when we are talking of video game music.

Well, he didn't say that in the article. But in the forum post about it, the discussion got pretty heated about his reasons why the game is 'good' The music and graphics are pretty good, for a game of that era at least. The author is pretty cool and if he likes them then he likes them. I like my fair share of horrible games too, but if I write an article I will surely mention everything that's horrible about them

The graphics seem muddy and kind of have this diarrhea appearance. They are a mess. So is the music. The sounds and music in the game are unbearable. They make nails on a chalkboard sound like the soundtracks in games like Metroid Prime or Metal Gear Solid. They...well, bother me. What more can I say?
