Well, BACK THEN, the graphics and sound were amazing. Unless you are playing them on an emulator, which does make the music sound even worse.

What the heck is the "angry video game nerd's" problem? He himself claims to have spent more than 700$ to get a functional CD-i with some games, and then makes some videos to complain on how utterly horrible the console is. I know there is an "antique" side to buying rare consoles, but still...
Welcome to the Internet : the only place where people will go to incredible lengths and expenses to complain about things more than a decade old.

AVGN's reviews are "satire", which apparently means "he's doing it for the lulz", which in my opinion is a lame justification and doesn't mean he can actually do it better. I actually enjoyed his CD-i Mario and Zelda reviews, but sometimes he goes overboard with the expletives and unnecessary beer drinking (talk about try hard).
For example, he could have come up with a clever riff on the silly "You killed me!" "Good!" scene in Wand of Gamelon. Instead, he spends like thirty seconds yelling "fuck" like a duck and showing his two middle fingers. We get it! You're edgy.
Also, he has a very obnoxious fanbase who accuses anyone who does satirical video reviews to be a copycat. Sorry, but Seanbaby did the whole satirical game review thing long before AVGN did.

I think he did a good job talking about the system's quirks and his troubles getting a working unit. His audience is mostly young teenaged gamers who probably know little about the 3DO. In a way he is educating them.

I think the reason he went to so much trouble in getting a working unit and all that is because he loves his fans. He's probably gotten request after request after request about it and probably wanted to but never had the chance.

Exactly, that's why I don't like him. He just tries too hard to be something he is clearly not. Just by looking or hearing seanbaby you can clearly see that guy is exactly what he writes. But this AVGN is just trying to be "cool" by yelling fuck every 3 seconds.

I consider AVGN as a MTV entertaiment; brain-free, yet still quite fun to watch.
Besides, the nerds "review" told me just what I wanted to know about those games. To quote the article...

I've never really saw the problem with the AVGN, I think he's pretty cool and I mostly stick around for his cinema-related work. Seriously, he could do a lot worse and I never really focused on the swearing aspect, I think that's just some cheap attraction for retards.

I really didn't suspect these of all games would have ardent fans and supporters...wow.
We are just going to have to agree to disagree. Compared to games in the early 90s, the game just seems hideous, visually and audio wise, to me anyway.
Plus, emulators make games look and sound better, at least good emulators. I don't understand that comment.
I thought he said it amounted to seven hundred dollars worth. The episodes are actually pretty user friendly, much of the games he reviews are based on request and not his choosing, I doubt he'd ever bother with these games if it hadn't been requested a billion times. I mean, I doubt he'll ever review E.T. unless he gets trillions of request for that. Hell, he even had an entire episode which was just made with user submitted quotes.
I don't see how pursuing a collectable just to criticize it is a bad thing. I mean, I'd pay good money for a legendarily bad game just to rip it to shreds. Why not?
Why would a satricial video on a video game have to be justified?
I didn't see any attempt to be edgy, I thought it was just a funny antic and play on his massive use of the word fuck. I mean, he just compiled a whole list of his usage of it.
I'd say a good chunk, like that Irate Gamer people, are rip offs, just because he didn't do it first doesn't mean they don't rip him off. He's really the first to do it good, I mean Seanbaby is pretty lousy at it. It's like of like how Maddox wasn't the first to write "fratire" sure, but he was the first to do it good, and pretty much spawned a billion rip offs who claim since he didn't do it first, they can't be ripping him off.
But that's just my feelings. I still don't get how broken games can have fans, but whatever.

But that's just my feelings. I still don't get how broken games can have fans, but whatever. I'm not sure many people are actually trying to defend the game, although the original article made some decent points for it. I'm just thinking that after paying hundreds of dollars on a game you know almost certainly will be bad and spending hours finding it and playing it for the sole purpose of making a video on how much you hate it... well, shouldn't you be hearing a little voice in your head saying : "hey couldn't you be doing something else right now?" I know I do sometimes. Speaking of which... [opens book]

They aren't great games by any means, but I can think of some titles that are miles worse off. AVGN is cool, too, but he seemed alot sillier in these episodes than formerly known to be -- hopefully that's not a sign of his downfall.

I personally think these were some of his best yet. Loved the segments when he was talking of the voice work and load times of Zelda's Adventure.
"And what the hell is that thing?....WHAT IS THAT!?"
I actually don't remember him saying he paid that much, in fact some of the stuff was sent to him, like Hotel Mario. This is a job for him, you have to factor that in, so if a billion people request these games to be reviewed, he's going to find some way to get them and review them. He makes a whole lot of money off donations alone, not including the massive game collection he gets for free, so that is why he'd be willing to dish money for a game he knows he will hate.

I think that he has a contract with GameTrailers so he probably didn't pay the console and games from his pocket.

I personally think these were some of his best yet. I think they were executed well, but his reviews on games that are that infamous for being bad always turn out less interesting in my eyes. My favorite review so far is Batman Forever for SNES, his appalled face goes hilariously well with the Batman costume, and his final rant ("This is fucked beyond belief!") is his most "realistic" depiction of a frustrated nerd getting angry about an unplayable game.
