the ones later have a LOT MORE hp and strength, esp the one in izalith (the on;y farmable one) Is he? Seems like he stays gone whenever I kill him there.

He probably does. I don't have much use for the shortcut after saving Solaire.

I believe he's also the toughest, so it's another kick to teeth by From. There is a glitch that affects it re spawning.

He probably does. I don't have much use for the shortcut after saving Solaire. It's useful for farming demon titanite.

There really isn't a shortage of the stuff in the game. Also, once you have your main weapon and armor selected, there isn't much need for further upgrades.

I liked having a multitude of "gear kits" so it was useful for me.

*random thought while backtracking through Blighttown* You know, this game reminds me a bit of a hack and slash Metroidvania atleast a bit. You're running around in the ruins of castle-eque places and nasty nearby caves and such. You've got the rpg sprinkles and while exploration isn't a huge focus this game isn't one hundred percent linear... eh, maybe its just me.
*stumbles upon the whip*
...well then.

And this is why I would like to see From Software do a 3D Castlevania. I dunno how it would turn out in terms of combat and difficulty, but with Souls they have nailed the level design and the atmosphere in a way that neither of the existing 3D Castlevanias have. And in the upcoming Bloodborne they've also nailed the visuals and setting. Naturally, we will never see a Castlevania from them. Konami is probably busy giving the franchise to some unknown european studio with a godawful track record. Ah, well..

The Souls games are far too slow-paced and methodical for Castlevania. The atmosphere is a little too far on the "oppressive" scale than Castlevania usually gets, as well.

For sure. I still think there are paralells but I was more just having a laugh at how I thought of that right when I chanced on that weapon. Speaking of, seems kind terrible from a first impression but when I get my rapier and parry dagger maxed I know I wont be able to resist goofing off with it.
Thinking more on it I feel a closer match would be Vagrant Story. At least somewhat. Just arrived in Anor Londo and it really reminds me of the beginning of that game.

DS1 is still the next best to a real 3D Castlevania we have on PS360. Though imo the other part of the mix is a huge dose of Secret of Mana. First you have a stamina bar. Then lots of weapons you can upgrade at the blacksmith, huge frickin bosses and most importantly: Jolly Cooperation!!
BTW After visiting the map of someone who recreates Drangleic in Minecraft, I created a new character and played some DS2 again. While I fare much better now, than when I first played it, I still died several silly deaths. The Forest of the Fallen Giants should probably be renamed to Forest of fallen Zockers.

"Slow-paced and methodical" is exactly what Castlevania was once upon a time. And I miss that. So I say do it! But when I say From should do Castlevania I didn't mean "make an exact replica and slap the Castlevania name on it". I meant the foundation, the level design and so on. Combat could be much snappier.

Is there a certain amount of enemies you need to kill in an area to acquire humanity before killing the boss or is it random?

Random, at least from my experience. Sometimes you'll get three before hitting the boss. Most times you won't get any.
