the hit lag and phantom range on weapons and some of the enemies is ludicrous

A lot of the weapons feel very clumsy too. It's weird that the caestus, which is basically a joke weapon in the first game, is pretty much the best melee starter weapon par excellence in DS2.

I don't know, it all feels the same to me since I always go 1H sword to Ultra Greatsword. I'm nowhere close to being an expert on the series, though.

The only time I noticed any weird hit detection was during PVP. I just chalk that up to the connection of either myself or the person I was fighting. Other than that I can't think of any times during the single player portions where I was hit by an attack that looked as though it missed.

pursuer alone has hella bad hit detection he's a really easy boss but there's still times I rolled perfectly past a hit, was basically a couple feet away or practically behind him and then had the hit animation and damage occur

I think I can agree that the overall world design doesn't feel quite as cohesive this time around, though. It's still pretty good, but there's something a little off compared to its predecessors. That's really my only complaint as well. I've sunk more time into DS2 than I have DS(still haven't played Demons).

I hated the very first boss in Dark Souls 2. I don't even remember its name but it wasn't so much the boss but it was the awful collision detection where he would not even touch me but it would still hit me and since you were in that enclosed cave area that was very small the camera completely sucked and that's when I gave up and said if this is how the game is this early on I'm not doing this for another 40 hours. Ah, The Last Gigant. Yes, it is one of the worst bosses in the game by the reasons cites, it is too large in a too small arena. I will grant to the developers that they had the decency of adding a npc summon and three locking points so if you play with them, you can get a good enough view. I can ease you telling that is one of the worst designed bosses in the game but still a far cry of the worst of Dark Souls (Tree of Chaos, I'm looking at you). The second boss pursuer is far better, actually is one of the most memorable bosses by virtue of his spectacular intro, the custom of attacking outside a mist and the invisible range on his attacks. Anyway, the thing I miss most of Demons is boss design, almost every boss in demon had a gimmick that made them memorable years after playing the game while in both Dark 1 & 2 they are just straight fights. About PvP, I can't tell how much an improvement is DS2 over the other two. Yes, Phantom range is pure shit and soul memory just don't works for organized pvp but is way way better that all the backstab fishing and low level wanking that plagued DS. In DS were just a handful of good weapons and the advantage of going elemental was huge that is little stat investment for near as good damage as high str/dex. In DS2 there was dozens of viable weapons and spells and the recent patch have made things better. IMO the only fix that Soul Memory needs is to be used only for unwanted PvP (invasions, rat and bell covenant) while soul level should be used for arena and dragon covenant. That or make an arena dueling game mode (or a whole game around it) where you are given an ammount of souls to build your character and buy and upgrade weapons.

I don't really like open world games or games or hub worlds so I like Demon's Souls the best because it had actual levels sort of like Megaman where you have to pick and choose which ones you can do and find out the hard way that the one you picked was too advanced for you.

I have a motto, the best loot lies in the wrongest path.

Getting the Blue Blood Sword relatively early on is so hard to do.

The other day I spent two hours attempting to kill the Lost Sinner on NG+ with Lucatiel alive, until the fateful victory. The True Dark Souls starts in NG+, guys! I'm also doing it for the achievements, mind you, as I did in DS1, but I would do it regardless of those. A New Game+ experience always brings new insight into a game.
An arena dueling mode sounds interesting... It would be a good way to keep the PvP alive, but it may be detrimental to player interaction in single player mode.
Edit: caoslayer, congratulations on getting that ring! Going through the game without dying? That takes a lot of skill.

NG+ was fun in DS2 due to being able to essentially re-roll your character class using a soul vessel. Try miracles if you were using magic or vice versa! To me that made getting the platinum way more bearable as I think the 2nd & especially 3rd play through drives home how the boss/enemy design was kinda half arsed this time.

Playing through the Old Iron King DLC now. I really like this one so far. A lot more to do and I really like the snowy mountain castle setting more than the Sunken King's. I've gotten to a point with my character that I have dropped all armor and am now running around naked and either 2H a Marakumo or using magic.

I finally got DSII few days ago. So far it's pretty.... hard^^ Just managed to get a Heide sword yesterday, after a few hours of grinding. While I'm slowly getting the hang of it, I'm still very often catched by surprise when a Hollow brings a friend along I haven't noticed. My main problem at the moment is to gather enough souls and survive long enough to invest them into some better equipment and to decide if I shouldn't rather use them for levelups. Anyway, I love that the game still has the same sense of danger and exploration as King's Field. At least I consider getting the sequels too. Also, I think I'll name my next chara Ash^^
