I finally got DSII few days ago. So far it's pretty.... hard^^ Just managed to get a Heide sword yesterday, after a few hours of grinding. While I'm slowly getting the hang of it, I'm still very often catched by surprise when a Hollow brings a friend along I haven't noticed. My main problem at the moment is to gather enough souls and survive long enough to invest them into some better equipment and to decide if I shouldn't rather use them for levelups. Anyway, I love that the game still has the same sense of danger and exploration as King's Field. At least I consider getting the sequels too. Also, I think I'll name my next chara Ash^^ Level up. You'll find equipment as you progress.

I passed on DSII because of the negative to mixed reception from experienced players, and since I still had stuff to do in each of the previous games. Is it worth it for about $20? Keep in mind I exclusively play these games offline, because fuck getting invaded at an inopportune moment by someone who I have no chance of beating.

It's absolutely worth $20 but lol if you don't play online. There are some bosses that make summoned helpers practically a necessity.

DS1 provided NPC helpers for certain bosses, though. Did they stop doing that?
Also, didn't I hear that the bosses in DSII are easier on average?

The AI helpers are like putting a napkin on a slit throat. The last desperate efforts of a doomed individual. Seriously, though. You'll do just fine in online mode.

] DS1 provided NPC helpers for certain bosses, though. Did they stop doing that? Also, didn't I hear that the bosses in DSII are easier on average? I almost never get invaded on my first play through and this game has tiers of invasion so it's a lot harder for someone to twink themselves out at level 25 with endgame gear like in the first game. The people who invade you will generally be about your level of SL and equipment generally. While the game itself suffers in it's diversity for this reason the PVP is more "balanced" in that way. To answer your question, yes, there are a ton of NPC summons but most of them are not exactly stellar. And none of them have any story relevance like Solaire, they're just manufactured damage sponges for the most part. I find the DS2 bosses to be a lot cheaper than the first two games overall. Most of them are exercises in frustration (the first of many multibosses in particular is a brick wall for most players) and I can't say I had fun fighting most of them. There are fewer epic huge bosses like Gaping Dragon. A few of the bosses are ripped straight out of the first game.

Sounds like the game isn't worth my time or effort even if it's cheap. Guess I'll wait until I get a PS4 with Bloodborne.

It is worth time. It just isn't best experienced offline and is not up to the lofty standards of the first two Souls games. Still worth playing though if you can get used to the idea of the odd player killing you - which given it'll only really happen on NG+ and you'll be dying way more in other areas isn't really so bad.

It's definitely worth a play, it's a pretty good game, just not quite up to snuff with the other two. Definitely take a peek at it imo, at least to see some of the ways they went wrong.

I called it! Consoles better be 60fps this time. Shame they didn't call it Dark Souls 2: Not even your pets and kids are safe.

Well, I bought DS1 a short time after DS2 and haven't even touched the second since then. It's much more fun and not nearly as frustating by now (except for the DogKeeper). Though I wonder if I'll have an easier time when I come back to DS2 someday. As for the 4Bone(my equivalent for PS360 this generation, spread the word!!) ports, I'm curious for the graphical differences. Will it look just like the beta shots back then, or will they also do something about those PS2 like forest hills^^ Somehow I doubt there will be much in the way of geometry updates

Cool, now I'll finally have my "complete edition" of Dark Souls II. Looks like it won't be just a port with the 3 DLCs, they'll also add more new stuff. Sounds like it might be free on all versions as a patch, it's not clear. Anyway... things like this are why From are the best in the business.
