I really really liked Age of Wonders 2 (and it's semi-sequel/expansion pack/whatever Shadow Magic). I don't recall those being too micro-management heavy.

An update on this podcast (since the last one was so stupidly late): It is 80 to 85% done, and we're working on it a little every day. It will probably be about 90 minutes long, since people seem to like that.

Just absolutely do not look forward to Master Of Orion 3, it makes Star Control 3 look like a mere Mass Effect 3.

There's a fairly famous lets play too of Solium Infernum, which is similar, but really requires a multiplayer game because the AI can't handle the essence of the game (deception)
