So I actually got to play this game for like, 5 minutes at BitSummit in Kyoto this past March, and figured I'd pop my head in to give you guys my impressions.
5 minutes isn't really enough to get a good feel for the game, but it was enough to decide I want to play more -- I had fun, and it felt very old-school and nostalgic.
The one downside, though -- and I'm not sure if this was just for the demo or what -- is that it felt absolutely un-lose-able. Like, your character in this game is pretty much invincible, and you are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more powerful than your enemies, by like, an exponential amount. You'd have to actively TRY to die in order to lose this game, as it felt like no matter where the enemy was, you could just press the attack button and it would be gone.
So if you're expecting a Mega Man-like challenge from this vaguely Mega Man-looking game, you might want to temper those expectations a bit. I'm sure things will be better balanced by the time the game is finished, but as of March, this was shaping up to be an extremely fun but exceptionally easy title.

So they decided to REMOVE ALL STORY DIALOGUE, VOICES AND TEXT from the English localization to get a US release out quickly and cheaply. I wonder what someone like Wyrdwad who gets paid to do this stuff for a living would think. Word is from players of the Japanese release that the game is still absurdly easy, too. You get TWO generous recharging invincibility shields, plus an overpowered standard weapon, plus a high random chance of being revived with full health and power if you score over 1000 in a stage (simple to do). Eat a fucking bowl of dick, Inafune. All of it. You can fuck off with your constant panhandling for Shitty No. 9 too, which is still shaping up to be a similarly massive turd. Your time of relevance to the industry has long since passed. And fuck you too, Inticreates, for being complicit in this and refusing to remain faithful to your original reputation for punishing difficulty.

Removing all text and voice in a LOCALIZATION seems absolutely absurd and incredibly backwards. Who could possibly think that's a good idea? I understand they want a quick, cheap release, but this is just a joke. Plus, hearing it's so easy definitely is making me lose any piddling interest I had after reading this latest news.

People give Capcom a lot of shit these days, and much of it is deserved, but they NEVER would have tried to pull a stunt like this.
Well, ZX had no dialogue voices in its US or PAL releases and ZX Advent didn't have them in PAL, but all the text and story was there.
This reminds me of ArcSys excising the entire Library Mode from Blazblue CP's localization because they didn't want to pay someone to translate it (it was a LOT of text, but an important complete database and glossary on the series' story to that point).

From what i understand, they're "just" cutting the voice acting from the gameplay sections, which is still unbelievably stupid.

This is why I refrain from playing some localized games that were originally released in Japan. Something always ends up lost in translation, unless the team behind it shows genuine care, love and respect for the product they're localizing.
I mean, what is this? Are we back in the 90s all of a sudden?

This feels like a good spot for another Kickstarter

I will have a good belly laugh if Inafune opens yet another donation page for a patch that adds a full translation and voices to Gunvolt. I will also not contribute a single cent.
Also, I remember that the DS remake of Dragon Quest IV cut out all the "party talk" dialogue from the localization because they couldn't be bothered to translate such a large amount of nonessential script. They kept it for V and VI though.

What drives me nuts is that apparently those idiots have already started working on an animated series and figures and all kinds of other nonsense for Mighty No. 9 to turn it into a multimedia cash cow they can milk dry, and the game isn't even done yet.

At this point, I'm hoping that Comcept will crash and burn spectacularly after Mighty No. 9 and its multimedia claptrap are critically panned and fail to sell to a wider audience than the Kickstarter backers. INAFKING would either come crying back for Capcom to take him in again, or get hired by Bandai-Namco/Square-Enix/Konami.
I mean, have they had their name on a single project yet that ranks above "mediocre at best?" Yaiba was irredeemable, Soul Sacrifice was an okayish Monster Hunter clone where all the bosses are really easy to gang up on and stunlock.

At this point, all the Egotistical I-Named Directors (Itagaki, Inafune, Igarashi) should start their own studio and publisher and make terrible crap that are little more than monuments to their own ego before it all crashes and burns spectacularly.
All the while, Hideki Kamiya and Yoshinori Ono could troll them mercilessly on twitter.

Gee, backlash much? I personally will just wait to see how Mighty No 9 actually turns out before I hate it for having all sorts of merchandise. Hell, it didn't stop Earthworm Jim from being awesome.
As for Azure Striker - it is one shitty move. Maybe it won't affect the game too much, but still, it is major uncool. Can't deny that.

From the NeoGAF thread, they didn't remove all of the text, just some of the stuff that apparently pops up during gameplay, and the consensus seems to be that that stuff was obtrusive and it'll be good to see it gone.
But impressions for the game in general are not positive, at least so far. It seems to be a game focusing on speed running, which I have little interest in.
