I recently tried Star Wars: Apprentice of the Force on the Game Boy Advance. Quite a decent game, although the enemy encounters get tedious after a while...
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games by Konami and Ubisoft for the Game Boy Advance are pretty good.
Also, the first three Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell games on PC and Xbox.

Would all of Konami's 90s licensed beat-em-ups count? The Simpsons, TMNT, Asterix, Bucky O'Hare are all examples of games that are graphically very faithful to their sources and fun to play. (Asterix is horrendously difficult, but still)
Speaking of arcade beat-em-ups, Capcom's Cadillacs and Dinosaurs (based on the "Xenozoic Tales" comic books, which I never read, but who did?).
Sega's Spiderman arcade game was also a pretty good title, combining beat-em-up with platforming sections. All in all arcades in the 90 were good for comic book fans, weren't they?
Another licensed game I liked very much back in the day was Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension for the SNES. Lots of characters and special moves for that times, and it captured well the feeling of the anime.

Rebel Strike sucked, so I'm not really losing any sleep over that collection getting nixed.

I just wanted to mention Mitsume ga Tooru for the Famicom(based on manga & anime of the same name),play it myself occasionally. It's a very well made action sidescroller from the talents of 90's Natsume with fantastic music. It's probably one of their less known titles, but just as good.

Guess I missed this thread two years ago. Two years late replying to this comment, but: I don't think that's possible, since the entire Castle of Illusion remake's soundtrack is nothing BUT remixes of the original game's music. A lot of liberties were taken, sure, but all of the tracks in Castle of Illusion HD are orchestral arrangements of original Castle of Illusion, as far as I can recall. Nonetheless, I really do need to play Power of Illusion sometime. It looks really good! Also, I might have missed it, but I didn't see anybody mention Willow in the last 6 pages! Willow on the NES is one of the best action RPGs on the system, right up there with Crystalis, and the Willow arcade game seems pretty freaking awesome as well. Spy vs. Spy is another fantastic game, and one of my favorite 2-player experiences on the NES. The NES version is, from what I can tell, the best, although it's limited to only 8 stages that can easily be memorized -- which I of course did as a kid, making it more or less impossible to beat me unless you, too, had memorized all the stages. And since I've been playing a lot of MSX lately, I feel compelled to mention Hinotori for the MSX2 from Konami, based on the Osamu Tezuka manga series. It's one of the most unique and interesting shmups of its era IMHO, and an absolutely fantastic game -- one of those rare MSX finds that often goes for a lot of money online, but if you can find it for a good price, it's totally worth it. King Kong 2 is another great Konami MSX2 title, this time taking the form of a Zelda-style action RPG. It's not without its flaws, though, making it a game I'd recommend, but not quite wholeheartedly. Its movement is a bit stiff and slow (making the cheat code that lets you speed up your main character more or less essential), and you can't save your game unless you have both a cassette drive and a copy of Hinotori, since saving is limited to tape, and is apparently a "cheat" that requires having Hinotori in the other cartridge slot. And one more game I just thought of: Kyattou Ninden Teyandee for Famicom, a.k.a. Samurai Pizza Cats. It's basically a cartoony Mega Man-style game, and is excellent, with great music, really detailed cutscenes that manage to capture the zaniness of the show quite well, and super-fun gameplay. -Tom
