Aliens vs Predator. We've already discussed the badass beat-em-up in another thread, but don't forget the awesomely terrifying first-person-shooter games which almost ALWAYS makes top ten scariest game lists every year.

Banpresto's Super Robot Wars & Another Century's Episode series are the epitome of doing justice to mecha anime.
The mech fighting segments in the Eureka 7 games were pretty fun once you got the mechanics down. The rest of the game(s)? Not so much.
The Kingdom Hearts series, though I always felt the story screwed over the male Disney leads.
Capcom's Marvel fighting games.
Activision's Marvel action RPGs.
The PSOne Gundam Battle Master/Assault games.
Konami's TMNT & Tiny Toon games of the Arcade/16-bit era. Special shout-out to GB's Metroidvania prototype TMNT3: Radical Rescue. The first game to (and still does) creep the holy bejesus out of me with its atmosphere and Nintendo Hard-finale of six consecutive bosses fought on ONLY TWO LIFEBARS!! All the games based on the new TMNT are a bit bleh. The last level of Battle Nexus has a laser corridor over a bottomless pit and you have to double wall jump UNDER the lasers to get to the other side, and any extra players have to do it, too. WHAT THE HELL, KONAMI?!!
I lost count of how many times I finished Return of the Joker for GB. I should do a speed run. Though I never could finish it on hard, because the already cheap-ass Joker gets a freaking magnet that keeps grabbing me. The B&R Genesis game starts nice enough but degrades into hardware graphics demos later and the levels just plain drag. That shooter level over Gotham takes like what? 20-30 minutes to finish even without dying?
Mickey Mania & World of Illusion are the greatest Mickey Mouse games I've played.
How could you people forget Micheal Jackson's Moonwalker?
The Power Rangers (Season 1-3 + movie) games, except the Movie SNES version.
Mazinger Z, a fun shooter based on the three main Go Nagai mecha.

The PSOne Gundam Battle Master/Assault games. Seconded, I was going to mention these. Also, the GBA release of Ghost Rider is apparently pretty good, I never played it though.

Any games based on NOVELS that are any good?
I can think of The Witcher, DUNE and the Legend of Krondor games.

Any games based on NOVELS that are any good? I can think of The Witcher, DUNE and the Legend of Krondor games. How about the three adventure games based on Discworld books? I have the third one (Discworld Noir) and its darn good. It has that "Discworld-feeling".

*thinks of the good licensed games he's played*
- Konami's arcade beat-em-ups like X-Men, the Turtles games, and The Simpsons - All of Capcom's Marvel fighters - X-Men Legends/Marvel Ultimate Alliance - Ultimate Spider-Man - The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction - Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 1 and 3 - The Narultimate Hero (aka, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja) series especially 3 and Accel, and I hate Naruto - Astro Boy: The Omega Factor - Bleach: The Blade of Fate, which not only is a great licensed game, but an excellent game in its own right. Can't wait for the second game to come out here already. - Many the various Star Wars games, especially both KotOR's, TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance, and Jedi Knight 2 - Goldeneye 007 - Star Trek: Elite Force - The non-OG Super Robot Wars games - Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, which is easily better than the movie that it came out at the same time with - The THQ/AKI N64 WCW and WWF wrestling games - Some entries in the WWF/E Smackdown series, especially Here Comes the Pain and SDvR06
I think that's it. :B

As a fan of cartoon-styled point and click adventure games (hell, I'm actually playing Spy Fox on Gametap), I really, really want to play the Discworld games...

The Warriors was pretty good, and I thought Def Jam Vendetta and Def Jam Fight for New York were both games that at the very least, didn't suck.

Aliens (C64, Activision) Fun first person action game with various mini-games interspersed to represent landing the EEV, weapons distribution, and so on. Again, simple yet addictive game that makes good use of its license. upgrades. There are actually TWO completely different Aliens games for Commodore 64, European and US. The US game actually did come out in Europe later as well, titled 'Aliens: US version', but I don't know if the other game was released in the USA. Both actually got quite good reviews at the time if I remember correctly, so you might want to check out the other one too.

Any games based on NOVELS that are any good? Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei is kinda good... for a Famicom-RPG that is. --- I never played it myself, but the game based on RahXephon is suposed to be pretty good.

Most Star Wars games have been excelent. A less obvious one is Alien vs Predator (Capcom CPS2 edition).

You must mean the Aliens game made by Electric Dreams instead of Activision. It's also available for Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum and MSX. I played both the C64 and MSX versions of it a lot, but never managed to figure out how you're supposed to get more bullets to your guns, 'cause I always run out of them.
