Hm. Arc System Works making a Contra game? I shall be reservedly intrigued. Could be hell of fast paced fun.

Sweet! The past two Contra games have been delightfully entertaining, so I'll keep this one on my radar.

I love it! That screenshot is just beautiful! And the armor and weapon designs are just the kind I like.
I hope it's got mechanics and controls to match. I'd hate for it to the art direction to go to waste on a bad game.
Seriously, after all the heavy Westernization of Japanese franchises this gen, it's cool to see something that looked distinctly Western go the opposite route.

Arc System Works? Bit of a bizarre choice...

Arc Systems Works kinda came outta nowhere for me, but I'm digging it. Look's pretty sleek. Hopefully ASW puts their craziness to good use and gives us a ton of nutty bosses.

Hard Corps is by far my favorite installment of the series so I'll definitely anticipate this sequel.

Man, I am a Contra fanatic, and Hard Corps is the only remotely significant one I've not sunk more than an hour into. I wish they'd release it on VC, but at this rate it looks like I'm going to have to buy a new Genesis (lord knows what happened to my old one) and a copy of the original Hard Corps in preparation for this. I pride myself as the best Contra player on here, and having not having ever really gotten into HC has always bugged me.
As for exactly how much I'm anticipating this new game, it's hard to say. I don't know if I'll like Hard Corps that much (I have played it some, and it's too difficult to tell with such little experience given how different it is), so it's hard to say if I really -want- a sequel to that particular installment... And, on top of that, seeing some of the ridiculously generic and mediocre run 'n guns that have been released on the XBL Indie Games service and on the XBLA have me worried that this game might be incredibly subpar.
I adored Contra Rebirth, but that had Nakazato working on it. It's been proven that nobodies who have a love for Contra can prove themselves to make a damn fine game in the series, but do these guys really love Contra as much as WayForward?

We are so lucky to have a real developer like Arc System works making this. They've been releasing arcade-quality games for over a decade, and many of them came from SNK before that.

Am I wrong to ask for at least one Guilty Gear reference in the game? (Giant Robo Ky boss battle lol)
Game looks nice though, can't wait to see it in action!

Okay, so, here's a direct link to the screenshot at full size- xboxlivemedia.ign.com/xboxlive/image/article/109/1094572/hardcorps_1275595666.jpgI'm not sure I'm really digging how it looks. Not because I necessarily don't like how it looks (how it animates is going to be super important), but because it doesn't look like a Contra game at all. 1. Contra bullets do not look like this. I know this may seem like a somewhat ridiculous complaint, but I really don't like transparent bullets and the spreadshot bullets don't at all resemble the actual spread shot from any of the games. 2. Things look anime as fuck. I don't necessarily dislike anime, but this doesn't look a shit like Contra aside from the from the weapons selected up on the HUD. 3. Why are the guns tremendous? Is a blatant lie as far as I can tell from the screen shown. This doesn't "undeniably" look like Contra. This doesn't even "kinda" look like Contra. That said - it honestly doesn't look "bad." I infact really like the female character's design and like how the male resembles Strider Hiryu a bit (who I have always believed to have a strong design). The style could be really nice, especially if well animated, and perhaps a decent change of pace. It also looks high quality, and it's animated in 2D, so those are a couple definite positives from me. Not looking like a Contra game makes me worried they're not going to make it play like a Contra game, though.

I'll admit, it doesn't look anything like Contra... at all. But that doesn't really matter. It could be a heavily "moe-ized" cute 'em up for all I care, just as long as it's fun.

Technically, it's not Contra. It's "Hard Corps", without Contra in the title.
It also makes a bit of sense seeing how the original Contra Hard Corps was considerably more stylized than the mainline games, complete with a cyborg wolf and humongous guns.
Frankly, I'm loving it, especially since there isn't a run 'n gun game this gen that looks anything like it. And to have it on an HD console is icing on the cake.

This is probably why they're not actually calling it Contra.
