Disappointed WayForward aren't behind it, but Arc is an acceptable second.

The actual title seems to be "Hard Corps: Uprising". Apparently the main character is Bahamut from the original Contra: Hard Corps. The previews say its set after "Hard Corps", but it could be a prequel for all we known, considering Bahamut was a said to be a hero during the Alien War.

Apparently the IGN preview is wrong and the game is in fact a prequel.

Apparently the IGN preview is wrong and the game is in fact a prequel. I kinda figure much, seeing how Bahamut looks way younger than he does in the original Hard Corps. Shows how little IGN knew about the plot of the original game. Hard Corps: Uprising will have two game modes. A Rising Mode and an Arcade Mode. Rising will be just like the Japanese version of Hard Corps, where you will be given a three-hit life gauge, whereas Arcade Mode has one-hit kills like the American version. I'm actually looking forward to this. Its about time someone did a proper sprite-based Contra for an HD console. Contra ReBirth was somewhat of a letdown in my opinion.

Semi-off topic: does anyone think that its weird Konami hasn't released any of their Genesis backlog for the Virtual Console? You would think with Rockey Knight and now Hard Corps getting their own sequels, they would've at least release them for the VC by now.

I don't know, Bionic Commando didn't get a VC release and I heard rumors about Nintendo not doing it because they were bitter about Rearmed only being for next-generation consoles (I have no idea the truth of this, it's just what I heard).

I love both Contra 4 and Contra ReBirth, so I'm definitely looking forward to this. I was kind of worried that they would announce a Contra game for the PSP, which would suck for me personally since I don't own a PSP. I've got both a 360 and a PS3 though, so I'll be able to play this I'll go with the PS3 version because of its d-pad. I also find it kind of fitting that this sequel won't be on a Nintendo platform, since Hard Corps itself wasn't on a Nintendo platform either. This also reminds me that I have yet to beat Hard Corps. I too consider myself a huge Contra fan, yet Hard Corps (along with the arcade Super Contra) is one of the only "classic" Contra games I haven't beaten yet. I've only made it as far as level 7 or so. I really should get on beating it.

I really should get on beating it. If you have the American one, you probably won't beat it. The Japanese version will let you beat it without trying. There should have been an option for two hits per life; that would've been the sweet spot.

It's strange. I can beat the hell out of Hard Corps with all the characters, and most of the different paths, but Shattered Soldier crushes me once I get to level 5. Either way, I'm fucking pumped for this game.

Either way, I'm fucking pumped for this game. I didn't think Contra: Shattered Soldier was that hard. It only took me a month to get an All S grade and see the "Contra vs. Sparkster" ending. Its mostly based on memorization. Contra: Hard Corps on the other hand, is quite difficult. I usually get to Noiman Cascade before I'm forced to use my first continue. Brad Fang is pretty overpowered though.
