That "feature" in Super Contra annoys me sometimes. Whereas in most Contra games I can jump over enemies in my path, I have to make absolutely sure I kill everyone coming at me from either direction, which can make things get really frantic. Yeah, your regular jumps are way too low, especially when the whole point is to avoid getting shot as much as possible in order to keep your weapon as much as possible. You do know that statement could be taken another way... ;D

Not to mention the fact that Super Contra is on a vertically tall screen, meaning there's less horizontal distance for those jerks to start spawning in.

You do know that statement could be taken another way... ;D Pfff, everybody knows you can't save the world with your shirt on. Can't be done: it's just not manly enough. At best, your shirt gets all tattered and you rip the sleeves off to facilitate machine gun fire. Otherwise, you're just doing it wrong.

Given the appalling lack of anime-styled games this generation, I'm happy to see something get a more Eastern makeover. Bring on the BlazBlue shooter!

I've heard it'll have two modes, one with the energy bar, and one without. Judging by how quickly and easily the miniboss goes down, I'm guessing this is the easiest difficulty, to boot.
Still, it's looking cool thus far.

It doesn't look very much like a traditional Contra game outside of being a platform shooter, but I really don't care. This looks to be a lot of fun and I like the focus put on dodging and counters.

This is looking pretty awesome. I have a couple of minor complaints (the lifebars on the boss are not necessary and just clutter up the screen, the repetitive voice samples are grating), and I worry that the lifebar will allow them to be a little sloppy with the design, but so far so good.

Who were the idiots in the original link that said this definitely looks like Contra? This hardly looks a thing at all like Contra. They also said it was a sequel, too. Man, it really, really grates on my nerves when people are faux old-school just to rack up some cool points with the retro crowd.
That said about those morons, moving on - this does look like a good game! It doesn't look like a Contra game, but it looks like it could be seriously fun.

Never thought I'd say this, but I think the Vin Diesel feel from Shattered Soldier actually suits Contra.

It's a run and gun. There's a reason they didn't put Contra in the title, since the style is so different.
The powerups, gameplay, and enemies though? That's All Contra.
I'm sold.

The powerups, gameplay, and enemies though? That's All Contra. Contra has never had bullet deflecting, dashing, etc. The power-ups barely seem to perform like Contra weapons, as well, and there's very little in the game bearing an aesthetic resemblance, especially the enemies. If you showed me that video without telling me it was a Contra game, I'd imagine it was Contra inspired, but I'd strongly doubt it was it was actually going to be published by Konami or in the Contra timeline. Could said idiots see it in motion then? Yeah, they remarked on having seen a video and said "it undeniably looks like Contra." Check the link. Edit: For the record, I'm pretty excited about this and am going to be getting it day one. Don't let my negativity over the fact it doesn't look like Contra cloud that I actually think it's going to be a really awesome game.

Hey, if Arc Hound Contra Force was enough like a Contra game to be labeled as one, then Hard Corps: Uprising is good enough too.

Man, it really, really grates on my nerves when people are faux old-school just to rack up some cool points with the retro crowd. That was Daemon Hatfield, who's infamous for stupid/uninformed comments. For some reason he reviewed Contra ReBirth, where he incorrectly identified Jaguar as a "mysterious" new character.
