Fans have so much love for Sega. Too bad they hate us in return. Shenmue anyone?

Shadow the Hedgehog 2? You think you scare me now? Try harder: how about Sonic the WEREHOG! Or a third entry at the Sonic Storybook series named Sonic and the Golden Revolver taking place in Wild West. Kukuku! Putting jokes aside, that reminds me the announcement for a new Shenmue game on a certain forum and when I clicked on it I saw it was indeed a new Shenmue game...for mobile phones. Sega knows how to troll us.

Sega knows how to troll us. Tell me about it. Over the years, I've developed serious abandonment issues

Blah. Nothing interesting on this collection.
I'm actually playing the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection as we speak and while it's one of the best compilations this side of Capcom Classics Collection, I'm still surprised at some the games on it, and more importantly - the games that didn't make it.
First of all, having Dynamite Headdy is nice and all, but where's Gunstar Heroes? It's arguably the more "classic" Treasure game of the two. Also, Sega removed Sword of Vermillion and instead added the atrocious Fatal Labyrinth. If you're gonna add games to make a collection the "ultimate" one, don't effin REMOVE games. I also wonder why Landstalker isn't there when the Shining games are. It can't have anything to do with license since Climax made all of them.
Lastly, I think Revenge of Shinobi and Eternal Champions should've been there. Also, Strider and Ghouls'n Ghosts (though maybe Capcom wouldn't allow it..). Add Castle of Illusion and Quackshot along with all above mentioned games and this would've truly been THE ultimate Mega Drive collection. Maybe Disney, much like Capcom, didn't want that to happen though.
Still, fab collection. Ultimate? Not really.

I am pretty sure it is all games published by Sega directly, hence Dynamite Heady being included. They did miss the boat on both Revenge of Shinobi and Shadow Master, but also Toe Jam and Earl 1 & 2, Wonder Boy, and others that I will surely think of after posting this.

I think there's rights issues with Revenge of Shinobi, due to the whole ripped off Marvel characters. And Shadow Dancer is banned in Germany, or so I hear? Which may have been why that game was removed from later collections.
The licensed games will never be on these things, because they're meant to be rock bottom budget games to bring in quick income, so they're not going to put any more cash in than they need to. I also remember a Retronauts podcast where the producer (I think that was the guy they were interviewing) set a limit on the number of games so to not appear like it was shovelware. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but that's corporate executives for you.

They could just use their heads and turn it into a series. There's still plenty of ground they could cover. But that would mean they were using their heads, and this is Sega.

I maybe the one guy on Earth who loved Headdy more than Gunstar Heroes, but I have no clue why Sega couldn't include both games on the "ultimate" collection.
Sega could make some insanely awesome compilations if they tried. They have one of the best back catalogues in gaming history yet how many fucking times must we play Sonic 1-3?! It should come as no surprise that this Dreamcast collection is just an easy cash run for them.
Here are Sega compilations that should exist but do not:
Sega: The Arcade Collection part 1:
Astro Blaster Flicky Wonder Boy Wonder Boy in Monsterland After Burner 1 and 2 Power Drift Hang On Outrun Shinobi Shadow Dancer Golden Axe Riot City Arabian Fight Rad Mobile SegaSonic the Hedgehog Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder
Sega: The Arcade Collection pt. 2:
Virtua Fighter 1-3 Virtua Cop 1 and 2 Daytona USA Daytona USA 2 Manx TT Superbike Last Bronx House of the Dead 1 and 2 Virtua On Virtua On Oration Tangram SpikeOut Jambo! Safari Emergency Call Ambulance
Sega Saturn Collection:
Panzer Dragon 1 and 2 Panzer Dragoon Saga Burning Rangers NiGHTS Baku Baku Animal Golden Axe: The Duel Shinobi Legions Shining the Holy Ark Shining Force 3 Scenario 1-3 Fighting Vipers Sonic R Guardian Heroes (since they included Dynamite Headdy before)
I know the Saturn is hard to emulate, but the arcade compilations could easily happen if they really worked hard to please the fans. Maybe in 10 more years we will see some Sega collections that are worth giving a shit about...

An arcade collection without Wrestle War on it?! How dare you, sir!
(No, really, I love that game. Stop looking at me like that...)
In all seriousness, the way Sega has shunned Revenge of Death Adder is completely baffling to me. It's far and away the best Golden Axe title in the series. If nothing else, I think a XBLA release would do good business for them.
...but this is Sega we're talking about.

Shining Force NEO. That says it all. That's what Sega thinks of its fans.

Shining Force NEO. That says it all. That's what Sega thinks of its fans. Sad, but true. Since this collection is all of the DC ports on XBLA, then I am quite curious why Virtual On Oratio Tangram failed to make the cut. I would have gave the disc a look for that one.
