Which games are you referring to? Did you compare them to their non-Steam versions?

I have previously noted that it's very mysterious that GOG sells a version of Riven that should run anywhere, but on Steam its minimum system requirement is explicitly listed as Vista. (Good luck getting Vista to run on a "800mhz Pentium 3 with 256MB RAM" !)
