The 3DS might not have Region Locking or it could have Region locking like the 360 does hopefully the first one.
Because the European Version of Pokemon White and Black that has DSI extra features which means it is region locked for DSI'S works perfectly on any regions DSI model's.

Forgot about that. That, right there, is a real system-killer for me. Hopefully Sony is smart enough NOT to region-lock the NGP, as I imagine that would be a real boon to its sales (and a good bargaining chip when comparing it to the 3DS). Import gamers are a growing market, after all!

I really hope the NGP remains unlocked as well. Region-locking is a real turnoff for me as well.

Yep. I can't wait for it (if they ever do something like that). Maybe DSiWare games could be run on them. And so I can finally play the DSiWare game that made me update my system in the first place: X-SCAPEIt's already been announced that DSiWare games run on the 3DS. No; by "them" I meant DS/DSi flashcarts. Because I would have already bought X-Scape on my XL. But I didn't know they were gonna include DSiWare compatibility too on the 3DS

Region locking for 3DS games bites, yeah, but then I realized, what is there to import that we're gonna miss out on right now besides some early anime games (which are never too great) and the like? With the way progress is going with the hacking of the system we'll easily see region cracks before or during the second generation of games. Plus, it's not like the US and EU libraries will be lacking of good stuff until and after that time comes. The launch lineups aren't bad, especially when the DS had a way worse selection initially, whereas the 3DS has a good amount of recognizable franchises right out the gate, and some original titles like Nintendo's Steel Diver, not to mention the stuff coming out in the launch window (next 6 months.) Also, really for the NGP I'm waiting for E3 to see what's down the pipeline for it software-wise, which'll determine if I get it sooner or later. Region freedom would be excellent, though.

Oh, believe me, there'll be plenty. (: As an avid import gamer who frequently engages in "game digging" (to use Sony's term), there are ALWAYS hidden gems that sink into the depths of obscurity. Every single console and handheld ever released has had a sizable number of Japan-only games I've wanted, and I have no reason to believe the 3DS will be any different.
If I want them badly enough, though, I suppose I'll just buy a Japanese 3DS. (:

I'd be more upset about the 3DS being region locked, but considering I have a grand total of ...1 game from Japan in my game library across all systems, it doesn't effect me much.

I'm definitely not looking forward to seeing lo-res DS games stretched out on screens 25% longer and wider. Wait, why wouldn't they just play them at DS native resolution?

Wait, why wouldn't they just play them at DS native resolution? You can do that as well, but then they play in a small box within the screen, so you're kinda left picking which one bothers you less. www.1up.com/news/video-playing-ds-games-3dsedit... either way, as you can see in the video, it doesn't actually stretch the graphics to fit the wider screen, it just puts black bars on the sides.

The regional lockout is easily the thing that pisses me off the most about the 3DS. I plan on either hacking it like I did with the Wii, or possibly getting a Japanese 3DS (if I have the money).

The launch lineups aren't bad, especially when the DS had a way worse selection initially, whereas the 3DS has a good amount of recognizable franchises right out the gate, and some original titles like Nintendo's Steel Diver, not to mention the stuff coming out in the launch window (next 6 months.) The original DS's launch had Mr Driller DS (the best iteration I've played so far and I've played all except for the Cube one), Feel the Magix XY/XX and SUper Mario 64 DS, hence three games I've sunk countless hours into. In addition here in Europe we also got Pokémon Dash (I like it, no matter what most people here would probably say), Wario Ware Touched, Zoo Keeper and Rayman 2 (déjà-vu, anyone?), so I felt it was a pretty great launch-lineup, whereas with the 3DS I'm hard-pressed what to get. I'll be heading to China for an internship in about a week and I'm planning on picking up a Japanese system there, but there's really only Layton and eventually Pilotwings that I might pick up. At least Monkey Ball and Puzzle Bobble are closeby. And concerning Steel Diver: The demo I got to play in February was exactly the same as a tech demo of the original DS I got to play at E3 '05, except for some minor visual improvements. If the rest of the game is equally lazily put together, there's no way I'm gonna be interested in it.

Yeah, I was talking at least in America initially, aside from those three (of which I only had SM64.)

I wouldn't worry too much about DS games not displaying in their native resolution. The screen on the XL is larger than that of the 3DS, and while the games lose a bit of crispness, in general they look fantastic and benefit a lot from the larger screen.
