Played on the demo pods, but im not impressed to bring one home from Tokyo. So the whole 3d is really underwhelming, half the time im not noticing its 3d at all. And even when I notice the 3d it's more like a nuisance to be honest like in Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition.
Sure I can put the slider down, but that kinda deminish the point to get a 3ds.
So why was/is everyone raving from their hands on on 3DS? Am I missing something here?

Is anyone really thrilled about the 3D effects? I think people are more excited about the game lineup and overall better hardware.

I couldn't give a rat's ass about the 3D besides a novelty level. What I do give a rat's ass about is the tech under the hood and games coming out on the thing.

What they said.
Is anyone going to buy one out the gate, or are you going to wait for the inevitable "3ds Lite/Giant/Etc."?

Definitely waiting on the second revision. I just hope nothing ends up rare, like Dawn of Sorrow or Phoenix Wright did (until the reprint).

I am absolutely waiting for the inevitable revision. And I think you'll find that most people in this community fall into the "don't-give-a-fuck-about-3d" category.

I was (I'm actually a 3D buff here) which is why I'm waiting to have it in my own hands to judge. As I've said numerous times, I'm for at/near launch as waiting 'til 2013-14 to experience all the cool stuff coming out for the console is no bueno with me. Picking up SSF4 3DE and new Pilotwings especially, with some others if I have cash left over.

The only thing that might make me want to get a 3DS are the SMT games being released for it, even if so far they're rehashes of older games (at least from what I know).

Malibu Stacy has a new hat. Best response EVER. (: Personally, I'm holding out for the NGP. The launch lineup for the 3DS honestly doesn't impress me, nor does the hardware. The addition of an analog stick is nice, though, so I'll say it IS better than the DS. Except for the lack of backwards compatibility with GBA, anyway. (: -Tom

I'd be more wowed by the 3DS if nearly half of its preview library weren't made out of modern-generation console remakes. It seems they're trying to sell the technology more than the software, but to me, shiny graphics make not a fantastic game.
Though, if not just for the new Layton game and the Layton x Wright crossover, I'll end up owning one someday. But until further notice, it's definitely not a day one snag.

I'm thoroughly unimpressed with the glorified remake library so far as well. And as I've stated before, 3D stuff can trigger migraines in me, so I'll most likely have to keep that off. Technology and graphics are not rally important or sellers to me, so I'm off that as well. The fact it's no longer region free is also a huge problem for me.
So I'm left with waiting for it to either get a ton of games to make up for all this that I want, or it gets cracked to play flashcarts (though I hear it already has). Then I'll consider it. But only after the inevitable upgraded version of it comes out.
At the same time, I know very little of the NGP/PSP2 so I won't put my stock in that yet, either.

The PSP2 (I refuse to confuse its acronym with that of the Neo Geo Pocket) has me even less impressed. I believe ALL they did with it is show off already existing PS3 games without showing any original titles... I think that was the case, anyway. That being said, I guess the NGP isn't quite as far along in its development and it's too soon to say anything definitive about its capabilities.
I suppose I'm just getting jaded on all newfangled technology. These portables could lead into what I think is the eighth generation of gaming, but... I can't see what it'll offer that the current generation doesn't already provide. But I digress.

The 3D is honestly a gimmick that doesn't mean much to gamers like us. However, gimmicks like 3D bring games back into the public eye. The 3D really serves the purpose of getting the system a base audience which is what we need to get the games we want as hardcore gamers. Do I want a 3DS for 3D games? Hell, no. But I want the 3DS for games in general. The 3D will just help me get more games so I have no problem with that strategy.
