Alright folks, I just stumbled on this www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkC1lPinIus&feature=player_embedded#at=701-Chocobo Riding (chocobo can be called upon anytime in non-combat) -Blood (only stating because this is FF) -Massive Overworlds -Very nice graphics along with the cutscenes -Travel with Airship in real time -About 14 Playable characters (or more) -Each character has a unique play style -Change between characters in real time combat -Summoning, and you can control and move/fight with summons (although it cost's your characters life to summon them) -Missions operated by Moogles (they actually say KUPO this time) -Dodge Rolling (every action rpg should have this of course) -Battles are pretty fast paced (enemies show to be able to dodge as well) -Airship Battles (HOLY SHIT) This is shaping up to be my favorite FF. And one of the best FFs in a very long time.

Gameplay looks mediocre, art direction and character designs look mediocre. I mean, the way the characters and lock-on jerkily moves around reminds me a lot of Dirge of Cerberus, and the way everything looks reminds me of every other piece of trash Square-Enix has released in the last 5 years. Square's been in utterly tremendous financial trouble for some time now, and it's only been getting worse recently. Making the same old bland garbage isn't what is going to bring them out of this, but I'm sure we'll get at least ten more inferior remakes of their older games before we see them gone.

I can see it now. SQUARE-ENIX-ATLUS. The holy trinity of remakes / ports.

If they are in as bad a financial state as is being said you never know- they might actually take the finger out of their asses and pool all the cash made from shameless remakes into remaking FF7. Of course given they'll tie it into all the other FFVII spin off cack it will be in fact so hideous that the world will end properly this time

Doesn't look very impressive. If it's anything like 3rd Birthday I'll probably skip this. If it even comes out here.

Square-Enix has no idea what they're doing anymore. I'm having a very difficult time trying to think of any recent, enjoyable game with their logo attached that wasn't either a remake of a title from the Sakaguchi era, or developed by an outside party like Level 5.

That's the problem with most Japanese studios these days: it's either bad in-house stuff or farmed out. American studios seem to have the opposite problem: most of them are now subsidiaries of larger companies, like how id is now part of Zenimax and Raven is part of Activision. The constant remakes and reboots seems to be a problem with both. Edit: Context.

Well, I've learned to long stop caring what this board has to say about SE games.
Anyway, I haven't watched the whole thing, but I'm really impressed by what I've seen. I honestly can't believe the PSP is capable of that, and the idea of airship battles...wow.
Liking the uniform/custom weapon bit for the main characters. Hopefully, they don't kill off half the cast after the tutorial like in 358/2 days.

Don't get me wrong Gunheart - I think most things Square Enix produce are very slick graphically and gameplay wise they are rarely that bad. Now at risk of sounding extremely pretetious here I think the problem is that most of it feels like it has no soul or something. It's all very flash and yeah they tend to have massive stories with lots of twists but it just feels so empty all the same- like it is running off some sort of conveyerbelt. I think it'd got worse since they have poorly attempted to try western developed gameplay styles.

Just saw the video, and I have to say I'm really impressed. I'm not entirely sure how battles work, since I never got around to playing Crisis Core, but they look like fun and it seems magic gets a lot of mileage.
I'm not entirely sure what to make of that "field" battle midway through the video, and I'm a bit disappointed that you could apparently take out an entire group of enemies with one Thunder spell, but the the airship battle at the end made up for it.
Really looking forward to this one.

Well, I've learned to long stop caring what this board has to say about SE games. That's ok. We learned to long stop caring about your opinions on games in general.

That's ok. We learned to long stop caring about your opinions on games in general. Look, I respect quite a few users here. For Halo, Dual's about the only one to talk to. For a connoisseur of RPG battle systems, you can't go wrong with feynman. But if you dare happen to like anything by S-E made in the past five years, there's no one to talk to.

Not trying to fan flames on an argument, but I'm genuinely curious here. What has Square made that was good over the last five years? Last Remnant? Infinite Undiscovery? FFXIII? I'm really at a loss.
