thegamingliberty.com/index.php/2011/06/10/original-james-voice-actor-speaks-out-about-silent-hill-2-hd-re-casting/Seriously? May not mean much for some, but to me, changing James' voice actor is more than enough to destroy the nostalgia factor that I gained from playing Silent Hill 2. Why won't Konami just pay the money they owe to the guy? At this point, I believe every major japanese company I used to love has just turned into a bunch of self-centered money-grubbing pigs. With bullshit like this, it's no wonder western devs/pubs look like gods for some (except for Activision, EA, Blizzard and Ubisoft).

Dude, are you saying major western developers and publishers AREN'T self-centered money-grubbing pigs?! I don't think you can split this on international lines like that. It's the nature of the business, no matter WHAT country you're from. The bigger you are, the harder it is not to become part of the capitalist machine.

Didn't Rockstar essentially stiff the voice actors from GTA IV too? This whole "waaah Japan is eviiil" shit is getting so old.

How about we focus on the fact that Konami is fucking changing James's voice in Silent Hill 2? Not Eddie or Laura or even Angela. Fucking James, the heart and soul of the whole game.

It's not just "waaah, Japan is eviiil," it's that they're sometimes more evil. And, much more importantly, the big names in Japan make so few good games anymore that it's much easier to villainize them. I mean, ports of old games are one of the most exciting things that Konami has done in years. When they can't even do that shit right, is tends to make people bitter. The evil juggernauts in the states at least have popular and well-received games being released to make people focus less on their villainy.

I know there are a lot of western companies that are ALSO self-centered, but I tend to see more of that facet in the japanese industry nowadays than in the western one. It's just that the japanese side of this is much different than 20-10 years ago imo. Is Japan evil now? I don't think so, but they certainly aren't making are our gaming lives better either (for the most part).

The voice acting in SH series may not have been the best ever, but I`ve played every of these games countless times and I now can`t imagine them with different voice-overs. I won`t be buying this collection for sure(not much of a collection without SH1 and SH4 anyway). Luckily, PC versions of SH2-3 are quite good and look fantastic(SH3 lets you set the rendering resolution to 4096x4096), so it`s not much of a loss.

Speak for yourself! I've played very little BUT Japanese games for the last 5 years, and I've been very happy with the results. (Though admittedly, very few of them were from bigger companies -- but very rarely do I play games from bigger companies to begin with!)
I think the recent PSP lineup from smaller Japanese companies alone is leaps and bounds better than anything America has produced in the last decade. But I'm well aware that I don't speak for the gaming public at large with that particular viewpoint. (:
My point, though, is that it's all subjective. You say larger Japanese companies haven't put out anything as good as what larger American companies have released in recent memory... but I honestly can't think of a single American release from a larger company that I've had any interest in whatsoever for a long, LONG time. Last one that comes to mind is probably... Mass Effect, I guess (I'd say Mass Effect 2, but I was unable to get the first game running on my computer, so I still have yet to play it). The only other American games I've been interested in have all been from smaller companies like TellTale and WayForward.
In Japan, however, there are always major Nintendo releases that I'm interested in, like Metroid: Other M... tons of Capcom greats like Bayonetta... and Sega's been a big one lately with titles like Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2, etc.
And say what you will about major Japanese companies, I don't recall Sega or Nintendo doing anything too horrific anytime recently... and aside from the whole DRM thing, Capcom's been pretty good too.
Oh, and Sony's awesome. I know SOMEONE'S going to mention them because of the PSN hack, but I remind you, the PSN hack *was not their fault*. You don't blame a burglary victim for getting robbed, and tell him he deserved it because his Brinks home security wasn't up to date. (:

I don't know if "horrific" is the right word, but it's really shitty how Nintendo of America never brings anything new that's not a Wii ____ title to America anymore.
About the main topic though, I've never played the older Silent Hill games, so I would have wanted this collection, but not with different voice acting. I'd want to experience the games the way they were originally presented, so I'm passing on this collection in favor of hunting down the PS2 copies at some point.
