It feels like a pretty bad time to be a fan of Japanese gaming. Here is just a short list of recent disappointments... Nintendo "thanks" fans for wanting Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower, but confirms no plans for US release. Capcom: "Hey fans, help us design Mega Man Legends 3...wait...Inafune quit...oh fuck him and his fans. Cancel it!" Irem is out of business probably because they canned Disaster Report 4 after it was already complete. Wii U will be up to par with Xbox 360 graphically in 2012...but Nintendo promises to cater to the hardcore The Silent Hill series continues to get farmed out to whoever wants the license with mediocre results... Kojima: "You want a Snatcher sequel...ok! How about a radio drama called Sdnatcher instead?!" The Final Fantasy series continues to suck, Square-Enix could care less... Super beautiful, Studio Ghibli game, Ni no Kuni, stays in Japan for some reason... That is a short list of my grievances these days. Japan wants to entice Western gamers, yet they don't seem to realize what made us fans of their games in the fucking first place. Your thoughts/gripes?

Ni no Koni sold fuck all in Japan which is why it's staying there. Which to me is a stupid decision because with a bit of advertising I can see it selling a hell of a lot more.

I've been getting a steady stream of solid titles to play on my handhelds. Perhaps the only disappointment I have is poor tv out on the psp and no tv out on the DS.

As a Hudson Soft fan, I felt very disheartened when the company lost its independence the moment Konami fully bought it. They made them cancel a ton of game that I would love to have (Bonk Brink of Exctinction, Bomberman 3DS, a new Adventure Island).

And plenty of cheap little PC games to spend my time on (honestly, I need to start making a dent in some of them soon).

Bah! I have a bazillion things to play on hand, and even if I didn't there's a ridiculous quantity of quality freeware indie titles out there I have barely begun to explore.
You think modern gaming is infinitely disappointing? STOP BUYING INTO THE HYPE FOR STUFF THAT HASN'T BEEN RELEASED!

Oh, I'm plenty disappointed. There's no shortage of good games to play, though.

I am very excited for Catherine, El Shaddai, and Solatorobo. I am also relieved that Cave has finally expanded into the Western market. It is mainly the big companies that have greatly disappointed me (and many others) these days. Profit margins seem to mean alot more than bad PR for companies like Nintendo and Capcom. retr0gamer : I just looked it up, yeah the PS3 version is in development hell.

3DS games need to start coming out already.
I will forgive almost everything else, I need the games first. Dream Trigger isn't cutting it anymore.
(edit... the 3ds virtual console has been pretty sweet, though, so there's that)

Do the Gameboy virtual console games work on the DSi too? If they do there is absolutely no reason to get a 3DS.

They don't.
When you say no reason to get one, do you mean at the moment? Cause if so, then yeah, speaking as a 3DS owner, I'm inclined to say you should probably wait and see.
I still have faith that it will eventually get it's worthwhile games, though.

I mean at the moment. The only way you could get me to drop full price on that thing is if it's attached to the belt of one of those blonde chicks they had at E3 last year.
