This may sound odd, but I'd remake (or at least remaster) the old DC/PSX/PC Walt Disney World kart racer. I'd start by rebalancing the AI. I'd also possibly replace (does anyone still think about the Dinosaur movie?) and add a few courses. Then I'd probably beef up the character roster, which was lacking in the original (possibly with more ride based characters, like Figment). I remember that game, it was surprisingly fun. Yeah, from what I heard the main issue was the cheap AI of the other racers. It's one of the games I could put in the other thread because I kind of regret not picking it up the first time around. I like how the courses actually use the various rides' music.

Oh man. Super Mario Bros. 3 Altered Beast Golden Axe Sonic Spinball What's wrong with SMB3? Definitely agree with Sonic Spinball, would love to see a remake/sequel with better physics. Nothing at all wrong with SMB3 possibly the greatest game ever created. Would just be cool to see it in 1080p and 2017 graphics haha. And yeah I loved Sonic Spinball. Really the only Sonic game I ever liked except for Adventure 2

People were reading magazines back in 2007? I also wish Capcom would pull a "REmake" for RE4 and give us a full graphical conversion, as impressive as that one looked at the time it's not aged too well. This should satisfy my desire for now, until anything official comes out from Capcom. Lots of work has to be done still, but after checking videos, i'd say it looks rather nice actually. www.re4hd.com/?page_id=104

MediEvil! I miss that kind of comedic horror games, plus they could also make a jab on how zombies are way over-used now in popular culture, but just as cannon fodder and not protagonists. Also, stuff from the mid-late 90s is making a comeback, so why not?

El Viento. Give it the Vanillaware treatment. Lush, 2-D hand drawn graphics and an updated redbook quality audio remaster.

Vagrant Story. It should be more or less exactly the same in every way except with more helpful menu tooltips, a better explanation of how the weapons/enemy weakness system works and (obviously) modern visuals. I wouldn't want the real substance of the game touching in any way.
Well, okay, maybe the block puzzles could be replaced by actually interesting puzzles instead.
Graphical and user-experience updates to the first 7 Wizardry games would be nice, too but everything I'd want is basically in the Japanese console versions so maybe official translations of those? Again, I don't want the actual gameplay altering, just an update to the presentation and for a lot of the gameplay and character building information that's in the manual to be in the game. Reading those big ol' manuals adds to the experience but in the digital age that means PDFs and they aren't half as fun.
Team Buddies on PS1 would be nice to see revived in any way, that game was an absolute riot and deserved so much more success.

To sort of echo scrabbit's suggestion, I would definitely like to see a lot of older CRPGs get the Civilopedia manual treatment, complete with a search engine and hyperlinks.

There are quite a few older Falcom games that I think are due for a remake or reboot. Sorcerian is the big one -- that game is practically begging for a modern reboot! -- but I also think games like, say, Popful Mail, or Drasle Family (Legacy of the Wizard), would be fantastic remake fodder. Not that there's anything wrong with the originals -- I just played through Drasle Family again on MSX2 less than a year ago, and it was a blast -- but a little HDification, and it could easily reach a whole new audience. The world is finally ready for its brand of punishingly difficult Metroidvania goodness!
Another one I'd like to see remade is Fire Hawk: Thexder the Second Contact. That game remains my #1 favorite MSX title to date, and it holds up SHOCKINGLY well. With just the tiniest update, you could easily release it as a modern indie game and no one would bat an eye, as it was WAY ahead of its time when it came out.
The MSX version of Castlevania could use a remake, too. It's SO DIFFERENT from every other version of the game that it's basically a whole other game entirely, yet compilations always seem to pass it over despite it being a genuinely fantastic game (I honestly prefer it to the NES original by quite a bit!). Give it the Dracula X Chronicles treatment, and it could be a modern classic!

Just give me a matrix-style brain upgrade so that I can hack all the flawed retro games myself.
I'm not as interested in audiovisual upgrades, apart from removing technical blemishes like slowdown and flickering sprites, and maybe adding a couple of channels to the music/applying better channel economy for echo and chorus effects, or fixing scratchy samples, tweaks like that. Higher res textures and less pop up and model cracks for 3D.
The exception would be old PC (Spectrum, CGA, Amstrad) and Atari games, do it from scratch with those.

The NES or even Arcade version of Jackal done in Renegade Ops engine sounds like a really cool concept, i can see it fitting perfectly here. The question is: who would actually want to play this except myself?

Moonstone (AMI) - With better controls/hit detection and somewhat deeper fighting mechanics. Why not online support as well?
It Came from the Desert (AMI) - Telltale could handle this.
Hunter, Midwinter 1-2, Stunt Car Racer (AMI) - These mainly just need a framerate and res boost, and updated interfaces in some cases.
Bubba 'n' Stix (MD/AMI) - Something with improved controls that explores the mechanics more thoroughly, makes certain elements more intuitive and adds more levels.
Paradroid '90 (AMI) - Perhaps could become an online vs./race to the top game, and alternate modes with new objectives. Of course the game should explain its mechanics better as well and make droid rank clearer like on C64. Add a cool minimalist electronic OST akin to Hero Core and there you have it.
Defender of the Crown 2 (CD32) - Needs tighter, more varied action sequences and better explaining of itself first and foremost. Army battles could be like in HoMM. And keep it 2D.
Exile - More advanced physics and supdated interface/controls.
Shadow of the Beast 1-3 - The combat could use a bit of tightening up and there should be more interesting enemies but the main thing is to remove all of the cheap elements and have a consistent art style throughout.
Starflight 1-2 (PC/MD) - Would be kinda like more limited mass effect games but still.
Lost Patrol (AMI) - A more seamless experience with less cheap elements. The spec ops: the line of the 80s lol.
Captive 2 (AMI) - Mainly needs a technical update and some streamlining here and there.
Space Quest 2-3 and King's Quest 4 - Give 'em the AGD Interactive treatment.
Cauldron 2 (C64) - Could be a minor hit if it played more like Within a Deep Forest.
All Points Bulletin (ARC) - Should be just like GTA 6 or whatever except in reverse.
Ultima 3-6 - The usual interface and streamlining updates, and maybe a Knights of the Chalice-style battle system.
Last Ninja 1-3 - Tighter controls, less cheap stuff, more intuitiveness, more good... and more!

I would remake Shenmue, but only to replace most of the QTEs with real fights. It has a great battle system it almost never uses, and I hate goddamn QTEs.
Other than that, I don't see the point in remaking games, really.

The question is: who would actually want to play this except myself? I'd play a new Jackal. Definitely among my favorite games from the 8-bit era. I want to see Konami Wai Wai World remade. It's too bad Konami never revisited the concept.

Crusader, man. You know, that isometric mayhem where you blow everything up as a guy in the red armor. And actually there was an attempt at remaking the game for PSP, but it was canned. At least Necros remixed the already awesome theme song, which had to be used in this remake. I'd buy a PSP solely for this title, seriously. When Destructive Creations' Hatred was released, I thought it could have been a Crusader remake as well, but they went with edgy, indiscriminate slaughter of innocents and average gameplay. And if not remake, then I'd play some sort of spiritual successor of this one. The second one would be Unreal. The game itself isn't bad, I still play it to this day, but I'd like to have it refreshed. UnrealSP's user UBerserker has even written a whole outline for a hypothetical Unreal remake, which sounds really cool, but I doubt Epic will ever do this. They are focused on other projects, UT reboot amongst them. The most interesting of UBerserker's proposals is implementing the hub system that had to be in the vanilla game, but got ultimately scrapped due to numerous issues and development schedule. This concept was revisited in Ion Storm's Deus Ex, another game using the first iteration of UEngine. Aside from that, user Krull0r is working on a revamped set of single player maps, which uses lots of new stuff included in U227 patch, and it's really, really awesome, though it's not what I would call a remake. And finally John Romero's Daikatana. Yup, I might sound like a crazy idiot, but I liked the concept of the game itself. It's the execution that was awfully bad. But given the very low reputation of the original I highly doubt a remake of this one will ever happen.
