Most recent I recall is a 2.5D vertical shmup called Xenic. This is the only video I managed to find about it. It says Midas published it in 2000 but apparently the game was originally published elsewhere and is one or two years younger. Looks like a scrapped Raystorm/ Crisis prototype or something.

That's Ok, i'd be surprised if you liked every single game, that'd be weird . Presumably you've tried it on Win7, how does it run? 'Cause i might give it a go over time. The Remastered version ran pretty well for me, for the most part. The only real technical issue, graphically speaking, was with the lighting in some areas (in like maybe three areas total, though the most glaring example of this is within the first five minutes), where certain flickering lights will exhibit extreme screen-tearing, and make it nearly impossible to actually see clearly. It appears normal when you take a screenshot though, so I can't show an example. From what I've read, it would be fixed if you enabled V-sync, but I'm pretty sure I had that turned off (and I just uninstalled the game, so I can't readily double-check my settings).

Nothing particularly noteworthy, except for maybe Wing Force, which was dumped recently by Shou. Don't know what's its status now, but it was relatively unknown about a year ago or so.

Remember every time Infinite was shown in the early going it was in semi-open environments and yet the final game was almost totally linear, I think the console hardware at the time just couldn't handle those wide open environments and the game basically fell apart, forcing Irrational to pick up the pieces and fashion a linear shoot 'em up from the pieces. And obviously the story suffered from that since I'm sure they were under huge pressure to simply finish the game so Levine couldn't really sweat the details of the story too much, who knows what he originally intended (though it seems that the game was more about American exceptionalism than simple racism and Elizabeth was meant to be some sort of telepath at first than opening "tears" to other dimensions) Yep, and they admitted that, it's been documented on a various sites on the net.( Kotaku)

It's been around 10 years from the last Time Crisis release and nearly 20 for Battle Arena Toshinden. Anyone still waiting for those?
Since remakes are not very popular among 2D shmups, it'd be naive to expect anything new from the Gigawing, Strikers, Cho Aniki, Sengoku Ace, Shikigami no Shiro, Thunder Force and the likes at this point imo.
Hudson Soft has since been merged with Konami, so chances for a new Bonk or Star Soldier entries are pretty slim i reckon too.

And about RDR2, it's coming 8 years after the first, that's a pretty long time for a game as big a hit as the the first RDR, any other dev would not have taken that long but Rockstar takes it's time and focuses on projects they feel passionate about. Blizzard and Epic incorporate the same mentality, companies that usually develop and self-publish their games. Id Software, Polyphony Digital and Kojima Productions perhaps are more publisher dependant and their products tend to come out with varying results, but they're often not in the competition, take their time and quite passionate about it.

I think Cyan is done with Myst after calling the last one 'End of Ages' and releasing Obduction now.

Well... no, Symphony of the Night came out QUITE A BIT before Final Fantasy VIII. So there goes that theory! But that might still explain my personal dislike toward I Am the Wind, since I definitely didn't play Symphony of the Night until after FF8, and my assumption back in the day was always that SotN came out afterward, so I probably perceived I Am the Wind as an Eyes On Me wannabe song, even if the reality could arguably be the reverse... What do you think about "The Best is Yet to Come " from MGS released in '98? I first played MGS and then SOTN and honestly don't remember much about "I Am The Wind" whereas MGS one always triggers the string of nostalgia. I haven't heard "Eyes On Me" at all.

Not saying it wasn't. It just that devs usually have no problems making a fourth one by omitting the number from the title, if they really want to squeeze out more bucks. Think of Gears of War: Judgment, Onimusha: Dawn Of Dreams or even Mass Effect: Andromeda. I think that's a good thing - an AAA company that still has some dignity to actually finish their stories. Yep, but we have to keep quiet - Metal Gear Survive might get cancalled , not that MGS V ended up with lots of self-respect .

You're damn right about that. I wonder who's gonna save these poor souls who have unwillingly fallen under the "Trilogy" curse: Grid, Risen, Dungeon Siege, Dragon Age, Max Payne, Disciples, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing, Borderlands, Untold Legends, Parasite Eve, someone stop me please... Wasn't Max Payne 3 a huge succes though? Not saying it wasn't. It just that devs usually have no problems making a fourth one by omitting the number from the title, if they really want to squeeze out more bucks. Think of Gears of War: Judgment, Onimusha: Dawn Of Dreams or even Mass Effect: Andromeda.
