I am late to the party, but I have finally installed the game after thoroughly removing a lot of games I'm through with. Any tips for "the beginner"?

Finally, someone else posted again! Here's some advice that I think might come in handy. When creating a party, I suggest only giving one combat skill per Ranger. The game is pretty well-balanced around each person having one particular weapon specialty; if you really feel like it you could maybe have a character specialized in a second weapon type down the line (such as giving a sniper a point or two in a melee skill), but overall your points would be better spent on either increasing your main weapon skill, or on building up one of your non-combat skills. The threshold for various cut-off points in a skill rises pretty quickly as you progress through the game, so if you don't continue to put points in, for example, one of the Ass skills (Kiss Ass, Smart Ass, Hard Ass), then you risk getting to an area where there are several skill checks for those skills, that require that skill to be at a higher level than you currently have it at. And while I'm at it, it's worth knowing that there's a lot of mandatory combat in Wasteland 2, so it's pretty much impossible to have a full Pacifist run. Keep that in mind when building up a team. I haven't beaten the game yet (I'm a little over halfway through), but so far almost every skill seems like it pulls its weight. Certain skills also pull double-duty, and depending on what you want to have someone specialize in, knowing what abilities overlap with each other to an extent can help; for example, (Game mechanics-related, if you care) both Computer Science and Alarm Disarm are separate skills, but they also have the shared sub-ability of being used to unlock electronic safes . On the other hand, I personally really enjoy not trying to min-max my party, and trying to make each Ranger fill a unique role that fits that person, even if it's not perhaps the most optimal setup they could have. In general though, it's worth knowing that almost every single problem has at least one workaround of some kind; if you can't solve a problem one way, chances are you'll be able to solve it one or more other ways, depending on what you have at your disposal. The game is very reactive, which is a great thing. One other major thing, is to save as often as possible! I regularly make use of quick saves, auto saves, and manual saves; not just so I can revisit an interesting point earlier in the game, but also so I don't risk having to redo a bunch of shit, or locking myself out of something which I want to pursue. So, if you aren't already in the habit of saving a bunch, get in the habit of doing so. EDIT: Anyways, as far as my own progress in the game, I just finished Whittier. That was intense. I haven't played in a few days, but I think I'm ready to deliver the kitty litter to that Ranger whose name I forget, so he can make radiation suits for me to cross the northern radiation wall . I'm half considering waiting for the next patch though; while the most recent patch did fix up a lot of things about Wasteland 2, including making it much more stable, I've read that there are still a couple areas in the second half of the game which have funky quest lines that need polishing.

Thanks for the advice! Created the characters following your advice. Yes, I am gonna specialize them more throughout the game. So far I am really liking the atmosphere, narration and combat in the game. I am off to Highpool...

I'm in (second-half game location) Hollywood right now; I've heard some bad things about the scripting here during previous versions of the game, but I haven't run into any problems yet, having only started exploring this place after Patch #3's release. I just killed Swifty and some of his slavers, and found proof that he was keeping teens as sex slaves. Now I need to figure out what to do with this proof.

Today I was contemplating getting a additional, physical copy of the game, because I find it such a fantastic game. Sadly I found out that the retail version doesn't even contain all of the necessary data for it to be called a "full game". Good thing I checked the reviews on amazon.com and amazon.co.uk first.

Wow, that sucks :/ I'm glad I asked for a DRM-free disc when inXile brought it up a couple months ago. One of the biggest draws of having a physical copy for me is being able to install the game without connecting to the internet. How far are you in the game thus far? I've made a bunch of progress, but I don't actually know how much left I have to do. I've done a lot of stuff in (second-half area spoiler) Hollywood/Los Feliz/Griffith Park , but one of the NPCs asked me to help him with yet another thing. This area takes a loooong time to complete

Began a new game yesterday, because I didn't like the choices I made with spending points on certain characters. I wasn't far luckily, just exploring the Ag Center. It's really a title in which I like myself to immerse; can spend a lot of time just looking at the environments, not to mention all the additional details told through the game itself. Currently grinding a lot; I want really strong characters. I read that people are experiencing slowdown since the release of the latest patches. If you're on Windows you can add "-force-d3d11" to the command-line / shortcut of the game. It makes it run smooth again, at least from my experience. This goes for all (edit: some) games by the way, using the Unity Engine. Unity manual

At long last, I have finally beaten Wasteland 2! I started out on Seasoned difficulty, but bumped it up to Ranger difficulty back during the Rail Nomads, and I think that difficulty provides a pretty good challenge. I am so fucking happy with this game. I did experience some technical issues, admittedly, but the development team has been hard at work on fixing them; three separate patches came out from the time I started playing on launch day, and up until just now, with more patches likely in the works. Aside from the steadily disappearing glitches, I have absolutely loved my time with this game. Fallout and X-COM are two of my favorite game series of all time, and this is like the perfect fusion between them. I don't have a ton of experience with the original Wasteland (I played it up to the Temple of Blood, and had fun, but due to issues when transferring data from hard drive to hard drive, my save data was apparently lost. I finally recovered it recently, so I look forward to getting back into the original at some point), but this felt like a perfect successor to it from what I've played. I love how reactive the world is, and how much potential there is for each person's playthrough to be different in some major way. Plus, Ralphy is one of the best characters I have ever seen in any story ever. He is so cool. I also really like Angela Deth; I'm really worried about her, since her fate isn't resolved at the end. I hope she's okay D: I could go on forever about how awesome this game is. I don't think I'll start a second playthrough anytime soon because this was a seriously long game in my experience (I've clocked 141.7 hours according to Steam), but someday I plan on playing through it again, and seeing what other decisions I can make in-game. Oh this is so good. I LOVE IT
