Well, there was Contract J.A.C.K... Sad, but they probably couldn't even make NOLF3 anymore because of all rights shenanigans. E: aaahh, too late, too late. Nor can they re-release the first two, which is probably the biggest tragedy, I last played them in 2011 but hardware updates since have rendered me unable to play them anymore (unless I get the PS2 port of the first, but that still leaves me out of luck for the sequel), they are BEGGING for a GOG re-release and Night Dive studios tried but couldn't sort out the rights. I like to think they haven't given up completely and it'll get sorted out eventually. NOLF seems ripe for a "spiritual successor" deal though, I mean just make another game starring a sexy female spy in the 1960s, it doesn't necessarily have to be a literal NOLF 3.

Not exactly a sequel, but I want a Sega All-stars fighting game, with characters from all their classic series. Old-school Phantasy Star, Streets of Rage, Shining Force, Die Hard Arcade, Virtua Fighter, Golden Axe, House of the Dead, Yakuza... Even obscure characters like Rikiya from Zombie Revenge, Spike from SpikeOut, fucking the guy from Deep Fear, even. Fighters Megamix was great, but this wouldn't be limited to AM2 characters. Like a Sega version of Super Smash Bros basically? Yeah, that would be cool. Yeah, but I wouldn't want it to be a simple Smash clone in terms of gameplay. As for the Centaurs, I say you include enough of them that you can form a Centaur Team in Team Battle mode. Then again, you could have an all-centaur fighting game with Shining Force 2 alone.

I want a sequel to Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, with an improved AI for Pac-Man so his mood swings aren't so obviously based on environmental triggers, and more ways to make him interact with the world. Seriously, that game was one of the more underrated games out there.

Here's two potentially interesting prequels. A game in the Metal Gear Solid universe, set during the German invasion of Poland at the beginning of World War 2. You play as an 18-year-old "charm school" girl under an assumed name of Joy Foster, who has been sent into Poland to snatch a top scientist before the Nazis can find him. Your commanding officer is the mysterious "Wiseman", whose identity you are never able to learn, but makes a small handful of offhanded references to "the Committee" when giving certain orders. Emphasis is on keeping HUD elements and item/gadget carrying to a minimum; you carry one sidearm and one "large" weapon that cannot be concealed. Stealth is a hybrid of classic MGS-style tactical espionage, and Hitman-style blending. There is no Codec/Intel button; in order to get updates on orders, you must "borrow" German radio equipment. The story follows the creation of a German superweapon (a precursor to Shagohod), and Joy's path toward becoming the leader of the Cobra unit. The other idea is a Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku game set around the late 1940s, during Allied occupation of Japan. Here, we'd follow Japanese attitudes towards the American occupiers, but also the rise of the modern Tojo Clan. The player character resembles Shintaro Kazama from earlier games, and is mentioned to be a disgraced former soldier of Imperial Japan who refused to carry out an execution and abandoned duty to avoid being shot himself. The game largely follows him around Okinawa as he does the usual Yakuza game thing: helping people out of tense situations, getting into brawls with people itching for a fight, gambling, dining, and getting to the bottom of a dark secret that could violate Japan's terms of surrender and risk reigniting tensions between Japan and America. Great ideas! Fans have long dreamed about a prequel game starring The Boss, it's too bad it never happened because seeing the world of Metal Gear's take on WW2 would be pretty interesting. This is exactly the kind of stuff I created the thread for, like let's really deep dive into ideas you have, including story stuff. Do the Japanese do much about WW2? Seems like a thing they only do allegories a la Valkyria Chronicles about.

There were a ton of Nazi references in the 80s and 90s. Even Ring of Red was about an alternate-history version of WWII.

I agree with Jason X, but this is not 80's and 90's only. We got games like Operation Darkness for Xbox 360 and countless amounts of Visual novels have Nazi references like Dies Irae Amantes Amentes.
Weasel even linked once an article about a Pearl of Harbour focused WWII PS2-Game and it had surprising good sales for the developers. They were surprised, because japanese people play americans and they kinda kill their grandparents (not exactly, but I am referring to the generation).
They never go too realistic. They mostly use alternative history and change years.
Yours sincerely

Dino Crisis: Purple Haze, to match Regina's hair color and overall tone of Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon with Fear Effect Reinvented visual style. Dino Crisis 3 should help to decide if it's a sequel or a spin-off .

I think it would be fantastic, if it was outsourced to Arc System Works to develop. Bring back Pepsi Man and Segata Sanshiro. Crazy Taxi and Panzer Dragoon.

Wasn't the entire Daisenryaku franchise all about World War II? Seems like that was pretty big.

I'd personally like to see him appear as a digitized character vs. a bunch of sprites, for novelty purposes. And Alex Kidd has to be in there, for historical reasons, even if his design is so lame. Also Shinobi (even though they're technically a few different characters), and the Panzer Dragoon dragon / rider combo.

A crossover between Bayonetta and DMC doesn't sound totally whack, just not as a vs. fighter thing. I often remember MK vs. DC Universe in such cases

The only good thing that came out of MK vs. DC was MK9.

The postwar period was a very common setting for the big wave of yakuza movies in the '70s, but then most of the directors & screenwriters active at the time had grown up during that period so it held a special meaning to them. There were huge, open-air black markets in every city, illegal but tolerated by the occu[ation forces because the strict rationing made them necessary, and a lot of the goods sold there were trafficked between yakuza and US Soldiers. Those markets are basically how the yakuza got so big. A game in that setting would have a ton of potential.

Where to start?
- A Secret of Evermore sequel with optional multiplayer and a darker tone would be the bees' knees.
- An open-world Crystalis sequel, similar to Breath of the Wild, would be epic.
- A sequel to the Dreamcast's Armada with polished gameplay and a more engaging story, but with the muliplayer functionality intact, would be awesome.
- A polished Sigma Star Saga sequel wouldn't have to do much aside from tighten the existing gameplay and story telling to be great.
- And as I mentioned elsewhere, there ought to be a whole series of games based around the formula of Cosmology of Kyoto -- that is pursuing a goal or playing out a story in an open-world set in a specific place and time, where people and their behaviour, customs and interactions are historically accurate. But also where the common beliefs of the people at the time are portrayed as real, such as superstitions, religions, myths, etc.
Other games that I would suggest should have proper sequels include Actraiser, River City Ransom, Star Tropics, Shenmue, Shadowman, Cannon Spike, XIII, Starflight, Comix Zone, Lost Vikings, Jet Force Gemini, Wave Race, Diddy Kong Racing, Soul Blazer, and EVO: Search For Eden, to name but a few.
