So, with this latest and depressing event, is it safe to assume that Capcom has finally reached Activision levels of douchebaggery? Activision at the very least still publishes some good games. More than you can say about Capcom.

I don't agree with this and always find it strange when people bring out this argument - I can only assume it's being said by people who started gaming this generation. Yeah, okay. I've noticed a growing trend for people on various forums to criticise people who openly admit to specifically liking Japanese games, and this anti-Japan/anti-gamer attitude is absurd. People criticize other people who say they like specifically Japanese games because Japan (specifically) is on a major decline in their appeal to the video game playing masses. That's an objective statement, too! I mean, compare their popular games now to the ones back then - they're dying out, and at an embarrassingly rapid rate. They don't know how to keep up with western juggernauts and farm their once good franchises out to the west, too. hg101.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=games&thread=8143&page=1Then again I already had enough of arguing this subject in this thread. At this point I'm willing to just pull a stupid Madden-fan argument and go "well look at the fucking sales and popularity." It's considerably less elitist than blaming the "western public" for the rut Japan is in, indirectly accusing our feeble western minds of not comprehending Japan's greatness. I'm sure you think this would be "sticking it to" these people, but it would just make you look like a gigantic retard. You know what disappoints me? These sales figures: Shadows of the Damned 24k Child of Eden 34k Duke Nukem Forever 376k Japan is just fine in terms of creativity, I blame publishers and the western public for the rut Japan is in. You do realize that Shadows of the Damned was directed by a guy who has a feverish obsession with western culture and that the game contains constant references to western culture? I mean, it's an excellent game made by an excellent group of people and I loved the dickens out of it, but it's one of the very few awesome games out of Japan the last few years, and it's by someone with a fetish for Western tastes and culture.

Where is the "in Japan" that should be at the end of this thread title?

Playing a lot of Midnight Resistance, Data East's cult Contra clone. Mainly the Genesis port, which has a cooler-sounding soundtrack, even though the graphics are not as smooth and the controls are a bit more awkward to use (regardless of which configuration I used). I'm trying to beat the game on the hardest setting with the maximum allowable lives in one credit. Pretty tough game under those conditions. Usually I do well until I reach Stage 4 (where I either, get run over by one of the tanks or one of the jets hit me). I've only gotten as far as Stage 6. It suffers from the same flaw as the early Contra games, in which there's really only two good weapons. The flamethrower (being the only weapon that can be fired in all 360 degrees) and the homing missiles backpack. Although not the most difficult game, doing my one life run on that game was absurdly frustrating because it has some seriously cheap moments. My least favorite part of the game is the boss fight against the jets, because upon killing one, the next one will immediately spawn and drop its missile, sometimes forcing you into a situation you can't escape from if you kill them too quickly. I rarely get outwardly angry at games, but I screamed and yelled at that one - Ike can attest to it

I can't believe they'd let it get far enough to have a scheduled date for a demo and then just drop the fucking project. I mean I'm completely furious at Capcom for this.

Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman 3 PCENGINE ~$9 in mint condition This is a fun sidescroller with very decent graphics for a PC Engine title. Only played the first level since Ootake glitched up after that. Might have to give it a try on Hugo. Have you played the other Schbibinman games? I really liked the second one, even though it was a little "trashy." 1 and 3 play pretty similarly, but 3 is leaps and bounds better than the first. The second game is a bit more like Mega Man.

When are the rest of these RETARDS going to understand that being hardcore requires you to play games from a select list of elite titles. Right here. *reaches meaty hand into back pocket and withdraws a handwritten list of games on lined paper* *list contains every Final Fantasy and Touhou game*

They've been fine with Bioware and DICE so far... I think if they had been fine with DICE that we would have a sequel to Mirror's Edge by now :[

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
On one hand, I felt the way the game profiled you was very unique and innovative, and that the overall plot was very engrossing.
On the other hand, the profiling admittedly ended up limited, the game was pretty slow and boring, and the chase sequences were just plain awful.
I want to love this game, but it feels like they could have done so much more with it. It wasn't frightening and it wasn't fun. It was certainly interesting, but I can't say that makes it a great game, merely a good one.

I started playing Shadows of the Damned. I think it's pretty cool; it's a shame it's selling so poorly. I'm at 2-3 right now. Considering they were doing well enough on No More Heroes to keep going, it amazes that Grasshopper Manufacture persists so strongly to keep making amazing games. I love what they do, and they to actually make video games not for money, but rather out of a passion for what they do and a love for their jobs.

I would call people who exclusively play things like Farmville "non-gamers," in the same way I would not call someone who only watches one movie or reads one book even a casual "movie-goer" or "book-reader." At that point, it's not even worth "casually" identifying yourself as. Before even classifying someone as a casual gamer, it should be expected that they at least somewhat regularly play a few different video games.

A good preventative measure is to disable WiiConnect24. I'm serious. That @#$% burns systems. Yeah, I found out that was probably why my system fucked up a wee bit late back when playing MM9 (the first time the artefacting showed up). Thanks for the advice, dude, I guess I'll have to send it in :/

Okay, so my Wii has been artefacting pretty badly since Mega Man 9 came out, but I've not done anything about it. I'm starting to get pretty annoyed by it, however, and was wondering if anyone had any solutions.
The most important thing I'm worried about if I get a new one is what happens to my HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS worth of downloadable crap I've gotten on there (tons of VC games and the ReBirth games). How do I transfer these to a new console? CAN I transfer these to a new console? I'm too lazy to call Nintendo support (and distrustful of them giving me the best answer), so could someone help me out, here?
