As far as Brawlers/Beat Em Ups go, I'd love to see a remake/re-imagining of Chicago Syndicate.

That would be great, since it doesn't seem to work in MAME.

So here's my two cents in regards to SOR4 as of now: When the name suddenly appeared when i woke up this monday, i screamed "NO FUCKING WAY! TELL ME ITS NOT FAKE!!!" and sure enough it was real. I was really happy, as fan of the first 2 titles in the series (i've played 3 but i have yet to finish it) and i'm still happy for the announcement but once the hype settled down, people immediately started criticizing the game's artstyle, with some even going as far to comparing it with a Newgrounds game and i don't feel that's a fair comparasion (Personally, it looks fine but that's just my opinion). But one thing that i do agree with many is that without Yuzo Koshiro doing the OST it will not be the same and even if the guy who may be composing the game is well-talented, he'll have some very big shoes to fill in, as the series' OST has been influential through the years. All that i want from this new entry is to have a well tuned gameplay and tight controls. I'm still looking foward to it but people really needs to calm down when it comes to the artstyle choice.

That would be great, since it doesn't seem to work in MAME. It should work, I've finished it on MAME. Either your version is too old or too new, but you should be able to find one that works easily.

Hmm. Figured it was more widespread, as a friend also said he couldn't get it to run. But that's MAME for you...

Hmm. Figured it was more widespread, as a friend also said he couldn't get it to run. But that's MAME for you... If you're really interested in playing the game, I'll check which version I have that works later. I'm not actually a fan, that slow death animation is annoying (you always end up punching at the air once or twice before you realized they're dead, unless you count your hits), but I should probably give it a third chance. EDIT - It works with current versions. I don't know how familiar you are with MAME so just ignore me if you know this, but you always need the parent rom, which is typically the largest one. With Night Slashers, it's the Korean version, for whatever reason, so you need that plus the US version in your rom folder if that's what you want to play. I don't think you need any particular BIOS, but if you do, it'll tell you the exact file you're missing when you try to run it. If that's the case, just get a MAME bios pack and dump them all in your ROM folder.

Hmm. Looks like I have the Korean and US versions, but it's still giving me an error about a missing CHD or ROM image.

You probably have old rom versions which have now changed to either a different name or different roms inside the zips. Mameinfo says the game was last updated on version .190 which means it was only a few months ago.

I remember having played that one on emulation about three years ago, so it definitely has been supported for some time now.

I really don't see what a game not being handled by its original creators has anything to do with it. There's tons of series that have great entries in later years, there's games and spiritual successors made by completely different devs that would be a shame to miss out on. At the same time, I'm sure there's tons of examples of sequels that were made by the original creators or devs that suck ass.
Games aren't like movies or tv shows in that they run out of steam after a while. They're primarily based around mechanics, balancing, level design, etc. And god knows of all genres beat-em-ups can use some modern sensibilities.
It's fine if people simply aren't interested in a SoR4, or if they don't find the art style fitting, or even appealing at all. It's fine if you don't trust this dev to make a beat-em-up. But that doesn't make it a lazy or generic art-style. It doesn't look like every other indie game or your average saturday morning cartoon. It just doesn't. Even if you don't like it.
But whatever, it wouldn't be the first time the internet judges a game prematurely and then turns around once it comes out.

You guys take this shit waaaaaaaay too seriously lmao. Rather than being happy Streets of Rage is back at all you choose to just whine about the artstyle, ever heard the saying "beggars can't be choosers"? I'm sure the devs behind it are passionate fans of the source material, otherwise they wouldn't be making it at all because I don't know if you realize this but for the vast majority of gamers Streets of Rage as a franchise is about as big as a fart in a hurricane, Adobe Illustrator is what they're using because that's simply what's easiest and cheapest to use within their I'm sure not very big budget (you really think they have the money to make their own engine? lmao) Just hope you guys realize how embarrassing your fanboying is coming off. Take me for example and the upcoming Bloodstained, do I wish it was maybe 2D, even pixel art 2D? Sure, but I'm glad IGA's back with a new Metroidvania at all, you have to look at these things glass half full. And scanline filters may not be perfect but they're as accurate as you can get when playing a 2D game on a non CRT television. And.... I don't care about "accuracy" so much as I care about what just looks good to my eye. Nothing wrong with healthy cynicism. And nothing wrong with criticising a game even before it's out. Sure if it turns out good like another Sonic Mania I'll buy it and enjoy it. Then again it could turn out like another Rocket Knight that misses the point of the originals totally.

Honestly, my biggest problem seems to be that the sprites and backgrounds...feel a bit divorced from each other somehow, like the characters are just toys or figures put above a playset of another toy franchise.
And the sprites themselves are not my favorite, though they do seem to be working on their animations.
I can't say it's out of laziness, honestly, making or changing art in any style for a video game is never anything but work unless it's a game where all the assets are stolen, but it's still not exactly something i love.
Still will buy this, if only because i want to support beat'em ups and make sure more developers bring them back.
