Rent? I don't intend to buy it (at least, not anytime soon).

So wait, you meant to tell me you can only carry two guns and there's no music during regular play?

I haven't been able to play the demo, but I'm looking forward to playing this for myself. I only just played Duke Nukem 3D for the first time earlier this year, and I recently beat it, so I'm ready to play the next game in the series. I also haven't played many FPSs in general, so I'm not worried about Duke Nukem Forever feeling dated in any way. The two-gun limit seems kind of questionable, but it's possible they could make it work. I'm willing to try it out and see if the game's mechanics really feel right or not.

Here's my favorite quote from the Joystiq article, and just about all you need to read from it: "Thankfully, the FPS genre and the people who enjoy it have grown up and moved on." Yeah, they're 13 now and moved on from calling people "f*ggot" to "n*****". Man, I hate Joystiq. Seriously. The game may not be that great, but it really bugs me when articles have that arrogant hipster-y tone 'We're so sophisticated and advanced now, we've moved beyond that' History is not a simple linear progression where things just always get better.

Besides, the original Duke Nukem Forever was canceled years ago. This is just a different game made by a different team (I doubt the same developers were literally working on this for over a decade) with the same title. You realize the game we're getting is literally the scraps 3D Realms had before handing it over to Gearbox, right? This is mostly 3D Realms and George Broussard's doing. Of course any game in development this long is going to go through multiple revisions (see: Daikatana ), but this is DNF.

Which is probably why it feels so archaic.

Yeah, I totally agree. I used to read Joystiq more than Kotaku for news (simply because they were the site that didn't sponsor Tim Rogers), but they're really obnoxious in that regard...they also seem to love pissing on things if it makes them seem sophisticated (see the Splatterhouse reviews) or just for the hell of it (Nier review). Bottom line is, good or bad they finished the fucking game. They ended what was a going on 15 year old ongoing joke. Kudos to Gearbox, for better or worse.

Yeah game looks bad to me Was never a Huge fan of the series got tock on third level of Duke Nukem 3D. I really hope Serious Sam 3 is like the other in its series not a Scripted COD clone and none of this carring only Two weapons at once crap.

I'm not too happy to hear about a two weapon limit (C'mon this is Duke Nukem, he can carry more than that!) but otherwise I'll still be buying this game. I'm just sad that it came out here in Australia and other concerns mean I can't afford to buy it til I get paid next week

I really liked COD:MW (not so much the sequel), but I'm really disappointed to hear DNF has gone the same route. I think it's possible to still make a good FPS without regenerating health/weapon limits.

Honestly this is exactly what I expected.Actually I wished it never came out so it could remain as that over hyped game that never released. Now I can't joke about being out of gum anymore.
Now if I the things I've heard about the multiplayer are true then I can't wait for all the uproar I'm sure we'll all hear for the next two months.

Always bet on Duke. I don't know, I suppose the game is going to be mediocre but pretty funny. That's what Duke has always been, whether people want to argue otherwise or not.

Indeed. Duke Nukem 3D was the only genuinely innovative one, and you can't expect Forever, given how long its languished, to ever have the same impact on the genre.
It's kind of sad, really. A game that was intended to have as much impact as its predecessor ends up being a collection of things everyone else has done with the genre with only the Duke Nukem flavor to offer.

Well I know I won't be buying this. It's already been said before that there was no way this could ever live up to its wait and I think people lost interest quite some time ago too, I think the only way this could actually be great is if it wasn't an FPS.
Really, Duke is pretty much doing nothing for the first 20 minutes based on that video and he seems to lose it after a single can of beer (I'm nitpicking, sue me, but he's Duke Nukem and his vision goes blurry after a single can, wat).

I beat the game just recently, having never played it back in the day, and I still enjoyed it immensely.
