Also, are the unloaded textures on the 360 fixed? There was a patch installed when I first started, and I didn't encounter any so far. I'd like to know too; I'd prefer to have the 360 version, but not if its technical issues go unfixed.

Ah, I've seen one instance now. It appears to be really rare, though. Not nearly as bad as it was in Mass Effect 1.

Haha, that reminds me of something I thought of the other day; I wonder if people who have ridiculed Duke Nukem Forever's technical issues were raving about Mass Effect on the 360 back when it came out. I love Mass Effect, but its texture pop-in is ridiculous. I can't imagine that Duke Nukem Forever would be as bad as Mass Effect in that regard.

ME's pop in is the main reason I stopped playing it on the 360. I just couldn't get past it. Bought the PC version for 5$ during one of the steam sales and never looked back.
Naturally, I got Duke on PC.

There are so many stupid criticisms in the reviews, just out of desperation to express unreasonable disappointment. So the shotgun does less damage from far away? Yeah, when did that ever make sense in an FPS? Oh, only ever since Doom, I guess. Except Doom's shotgun is relatively accurate enough to be considered a viable sniping weapon. DNF's shotgun has a spread ridiculous enough that you have to almost be in the enemy's face to do any damage at all. There's "inaccurate" and then there's "physically improbable." =P Which wouldn't hurt nearly as bad as it does if the ammo maxes for anything that isn't the Ripper were a little higher. Come on, guys, only 10 Shrinker shots? Which honestly is not that big of an issue in my opinion...except that the game seems wildly inconsistent about how much damage things will do to you, and how many hits you can take before dying while at "zero" ego.

You can take out a pig with an aimed shotgun shot or two from a good 20 meters (or at least 15) away. The claim that the weapons be overall too weak are another thing I can't comprehend at all.

You know- I found the shotgun from afar took out Octobrains better than the so called Devastator.

I've gotten past the halfway point in the game, and I've got to say that I really don't quite understand all the hate that has been directed at it. The reviews had me expecting something atrocious, but I'm actually having a lot of fun with the game. The humor is classic Duke - borderline offensive, but so tongue-in-cheek that it's mostly just funny and hard to get puffed up over (I don't know why a lot of reviewers are claiming to be long-time fans, but pissed at the game's content, did they even play DN3D?). While there are several stupid gimmicks to the game that show up every once in a while, and the last boss fight I did was awful, there's still a pretty solid shooter in here, and the ol' Duke charm carries the game from being mediocre to a worthy purchase, to me.
My only huge problems with the game are that you can only carry two weapons, despite the game clearly feeling like a more "old-school" shooter where you should be able to carry your entire arsenal, and the utterly fucking absurd load times that takes like literally 50 seconds each time. The load times are apparently a problem exclusive to the 360 version, though, and both of these complaints aren't big enough to tear down the game, for me.
I'm not saying that DNF is a fantastic game or anything, but I think people had wildly inappropriate expectations. This game didn't have 12 years of solid development history behind it, it had a very lazy cycle where things were constantly being redone, and the scraps had to be picked up by another studio to finish things off. I'm still enjoying it a lot, and I'm not regretting buying my Balls of Steel edition or my Duke action figure. I think any Duke fan that goes in with realistic expectations will find the finished product worthy of getting, if not immediately at full price.

About that... there is a gameplay video from the game in 2006 with about a dozen scenes, none of which are in the game. Watching at all that bonus footage in comparison, DNF has been at least 4 very different games since 1998. To imagine that this could be Duke Nukem 8...

Damn. What a shame. Guess 12 years was too much of a build-up. Personally I liked the demo, and I'l be playing it eventually when I get better hardware.
Hopefully, this wont be the last we see Duke though. Now that Forever is out of the way, they can start from the actual scratch and make a proper game.

I'd like a new Duke Nukem game as well. Would a new one be made by Gearbox alone, or would 3D Realms work with them again though?

I'd love to see a new DN game in the vein of the pre-3D games or Manhattan Project.

All games in the entire Metal Gear Solid franchise were made during the timespan it took to release Duke Nukem Forever. Think about that.
